It definitely is better to do something like that. Many businesses don't automatically ask for a person's ID when they use a debit or credit card. When you just sign the back, anyone can use your card without arousing much suspicion (unless they're a different sex, of course). By specifying on your card that you would like ID to be checked, you remove the likelihood of someone stealing your card being able to use it. |

yes, I started that too about 4 yrs ago..with theft & people loosing their wallets & purses..
the clerk won't process a sale ..
so even if you loose your license & all, whoever is trying to use your card can't..
do it on all your cards... |

Depends on the card. Visa requires you to sign your name, if you put "Ask for ID" on it, it's technically an invalid card and a business is supposed to refuse it.
When in doubt, call your credit card company and ask. |

No. Actual it is against the policy of Visa and MasterCard to do this. If she tries at the post office. She will be required to sign it and show two ids. I saw this happen to another person. |

It is just fine! That way, people know that it is actually her using the card. Also, putting See ID or CID on the back instead of signing works just the same. Then, when she uses the card people have to ask to see an i.d. to match up the signatures and also a picture is provided.
I used to work in retail and always looked at the back of the card and if it did say check id or see id, I always asked to see it. Yes, some people dont look to see the signature or even look at the card. I myself, would rather have someone ask to see my card to match up the signatures. |

I do this too. I wouldn't say it's more secure. It all depends on the sales clerk. Some don't even look at the back of the card. Some will look but not even ask for ID even when I've written "check ID". Some places have self swipe terminals the customer uses. But every little bit of security helps. I would recommend signing the back and writting "check ID". |

It is all about the person accepting the card. If they care enough, they will ask for the ID regardless of what it says on the back. |

That is exactly how I control my Credit cards, however a good many checkout clerks dont check the back of the card. I politely remind them...Check ID. |

Yes definitely. And you'll find that the cashiers appreciate it, too. No one but you can use it if you do that. |

It only works if you give the Cashier your Card only. If they dont ask for your ID when the back clearly states "see ID" ask to speak to a manager. This way the cashiers get into a habit of asking for the ID. |
