Of course it's illegal.
The random numbers do not match YOUR credit card number, so if accepted, they'd have to be someone ELSE's number and that's theft. |

Unless the numbers so happen to be a valid card number the transaction will not go through.
If the number is in fact valid then the transaction will go through and you have just committed credit card fraud. |

It will not work. There are 10,000,000,000,000,000 possible 16-digit numbers. Fewer than 1 in one million of these are actually valid credit card numbers.
Also, you need to have the three-digit card security number (on the back of the card) for an online purchase.
The probability of correctly guessing both a valid card number and the corresponding security number is less than one in a billion. |

You do understand there is a specific mathematical formula used to create credit card numbers, part of which is top secret. Less than 1 in 1000 sets of random numbers you type in will match a good card number.
This is why there are 16 digits. There are 10 to the 16th power possible numbers. They can afford to waste 99.9% of them.
As well, if you do hit it lucky, the number has to match the name you enter as well as the correct billing address. It is very hard to get anything free this way.
And if you do manage to pull it off, you are looking at 2 to 10 years. |
