sher_flash | Is it illegal to use someone else's credit card? |
I got my roomates credit card as he owes me money so i started using some money and now he is gone, I dont know where he is now, maybe not even in the country, and if for some reason collections agent come in and as him, will it affect me ? I mean, I know he did a lot of credit cards and didn;s pay them off........(one of them will be the credit card he gave me to use so he can payoff his debts to me)
we used to live at the same apartment for more than a year...
Thanks Additional Details let's say he is not coming back to this country anymore, can collections track and find out that it was me who was using one of his credit cards, and sue me? even I haven;'t signed my name on any transactions? |

Yes you are a common crook and your "reason' for using the card is moronic.
You are a thief and I think you posted here to be told that under the circumstances you were justified. |

Cathrine K
Yes. It's called theft. You obviously know he isn't going to pay it. Don't stoop to his level. |

Leprechaun of Jupiter
If he gave it to you is ok but if he changes his mind and reports it stolen then you get in trouble be careful with that |

EAA
It's fraud. If you're caught, you could go to jail. But the collections people can't do anything to you. He has to have proof you did it and press charges. |

lynnjonesknight
Yes it's illegal. You can go to jail for that. What were you thinking?! That's credit card fraud!! |

D.J.
yes, you're stealing... |

Andie

Identity theft. That's what you are. Where is the moral here? Both of you are bad people. He took off without paying his bills. I guess he has no intention to come back to this country. You, on the other hand is a thief for using someone's credit card knowing that is not yours.
You're both incredible! |

Is this a serious question? |

STOP
what you are doing and have done costitutes fraud and can and will lead you into big trouble
you have no proof that roommate gave you his card to pay of debts and he can say it was stolen |

wtfff =3
Stop using it. If it is, you wouldn't want to be involved, would you? |

greasy_midget
Considering the card has someone elses name on it. You would probably end up going to prison for identity theft and fraud. |

Tess
yes, I think you could get into trouble.
I'd stop using it right away.
Tess :) |

YES IT IS. Come on. its like asking:
"is it illegal to use someone else's money?"
duh it is..
Anyways if the credit card is not in your name and it can not have anything to do with you i suggest you report you found them and surrender them to the banks that owns them. in this case you are making yourself clean. |

If you use the card you are commiting FRAUD and theft and you can go to jail..STOP right now.. |

raindrop123
You are defrauding the credit card companies, because you are charging under his name and you know he will not pay you back. Even though you say the guy gave you permission he can always come back and have you arrested for theft. |

Angel
Yes it is illegal to use someones credit card..... |

BTB 08/15/2009

First of all, you committed a crime called credit card FRAUD, don't do it again. Secondly, only if the card was in both of your name's and socials will you start getting collection calls. If the card was not in your name and social then you are not legally liable to pay it off. But don't use the card again because if he were to come back and find out you used it, he could press charges against you and make you pay him for the charges you made. But the creditors will not call you or make you pay because it is not your responsibility. |

amaya7
of course that's illegal! |

Life after 45
Ultimately HE is responsible for the bill, UNLESS he can prove you stole the card and/or used it without his permission.
If you use it online, or anywhere you don't have to SIGN your name your ok, just don't sign HIS name EVER. Some min-marts will allow you to sign your name, believe it or not, and maybe other places to! :) |

doug0102
Legally you cannot do this even if he owed you money, but no collection agent will ever come in. They'll send letters, just ignore them. When they call, say you have no idea where the guy is (which is the truth.) |

puanani
As long as you didn't sign your name on anything, I think your roommate will be responsible. If they ask you where he is, be honest and tell them you don't know. Don't use it anymore! Good luck |
