Is it possible to settle credit card debit for the original amount, if you have acquired late fees?

Lender can agree to waive anything they want to. UP to them.

amaya7
It's up to the lenders discretion, however, the further into collections the debt is, the more likely they are to settle for a lesser amount.

You can usually settle for much less. Check out the free evaluation form at the source website. The standard for a professional debt settlement company is to get you atleast 1/2 off. Good luck.

You may be able to call the credit card company and negotiate a "settlement" on the balance of the card. It is really up to them as far as what they charge you as far as the amount(s) that are past due. However, many creditors are willing to settle for very reasonable amounts just to recoup their funds.

Good luck!!

Yes, it is possible. I would contact some place like Consumer Credit Counseling. (They are legit - other companies offering the same "service" are not.) They deal with these companies on a daily basis and can tell you which ones are likely to negotiate with you and which will not. They are also more likely to help get you a decent settlement than you could do on your own.

These companies DO NOT charge you for their service as their services are paid for by the credit card companies (who would rather arrive at a settlement than have to charge off the full amount). Just keep in mind that these companies don't receive payment unless final payment is made thru them. So, be fair, don't use their services for awhile and then pay off the balance on your own. If you do that, they get no $$ for their help.

It is possible to settle it for less than the original amount. Negotiate. Get it in writing from the credit card company though. And pay only with a money order or official check from your bank - sent registered mail - return receipt.

Absolutely. Sometimes creditors will even negotiate the balance if you're willing to pay off the debt.

gabcasta
yes you can. if your card is a charge off then you can settle for what was spent, no late fee's.

Offending Party
If you do not pay for a few months, they will try to settle with you for much less than you owed.
I hav edone that and paid half what they were trying to make me pay and it was the exact amount of what I charged

kboneforfun
there are times when yuo can settle for a lesser amount than what is owed, but that is up to the credit card company..usually they would do that if you are WAY behind..but beware that even if you pay the lesser amount and close the account, it will show on your credit report and possibly also affect your taxes

You might be able to negotiate, but it will probably involve making a large payment up front...and even then it's unlikely.
