Is it safe to give your card at a restaurant?
Can't the waitress go charge extra charges? (Its done alot)
Is it safe to use your card at a mall? Again..they can double charge or triple charge you wouldn't know until you got your bill or saw it online.
Some folks will give their credit card to a waitress they don't even know and never will see again and have full trust in them yet they are fearful to use it other places.
The fact of the matter is ALL credit cards have fraud protection now a days. When you buy something all you have to do is get a receipt. When buying online it will show a receipt for you and you can print or save it there.
I think the media tries to scare people by talking about the 1 person out of hundreds who got taken advantage of as it gets ratings.
Carried to its logical conclusion nothing is safe at all not even cash. You can give cash to someone and they can say you didn't give them all the cash.
I actually have had more problems OFFLINE than on the internet. I have never had 1 problem online. It is actually also better to use a credit card rather than a debit card as you can always get your money back easier with a credit card. |

The safest way to do it is by getting a paypal account and doing it like that, That way you don't have to give out your credit card number. |

I've been using my credit card on ebay since ebay started. I never had a problem with it. I've never heard of anyone having a problem either.
I'm sure there have been very few cases where something crazy has happened. But it's just as safe as using it anywhere else. |

A great question. Yes. First of all, you have fraud protection on your card just in case there is a problem (most credit cards offer this for free). Second of all, it really is not too different than giving your card to anyone else. Paypal (which was created by ebay) gives you the option to pay with a credit card and is all run thru them. Thus, not to worry, you are fine. I do it often.
I had a problem one time and it was immediately taken care of without an issue.
So, buy away! |

It is generally safe to use your credit cards on any secure site - eBay is a secure site - you are actually going through Paypal when you are paying. The seller doesn't get your card information. Also, with most credit cards now, you have little or no liability for fraudulant internet credit card use whereas if someone actually steals your card or gets the number with a camera phone, you may end up paying for some of the fraudulant purchases. I would prefer to use my card on the internet than over the phone and I have purchased over a hundred items on eBay - the only time I had a problem was when I paid by cheque - the seller cashed the cheque and never sent the item. I had no protection. If I had paid by Paypay with my credit card, my purchase price would have been protected. Use it wisely on secure sites. |
