Once your bankruptcy is discharged you will be flooded with offers for credit cards and car loans.
Just be careful, read the fine print and wait for the best offer.
I used Orchard bank and First Premier after my BK and in 2-years I raised my score over 150-points, got approved for a new car with no money down and 3.9% interest and bought a home with no money down and 100% financeing at a 6.5% fixed rate.
Use them well, never exceed 30% of your limit in any given month and pay in full before the due date. |

Personal bankruptcy is meant to protect the honest debtor and allow them to make a fresh start after unexpectedly running into financial difficulties. It should not be a way for someone to run up a large debt and then avoid or ditch their responsibilities.
A bankruptcy will show on your credit information for seven (7) years depending on what country you are in. Since you mentioned £6,000 I assume it is in the UK.
What happens is that they take any of your possessions that are not considered essential to living (may take the house, TV, and car but not clothing) and they essentially auction all that off to raise funds to pay your debt.
I hear that it is a very degrading experience in the UK, whereas in USA and Canada, you are treated a little more respectably.
If I were you, I would see if you can work out some sort of payment plan with your debtors and work with your bank manager to see if you can't (finally) work out some sort of deal.
Bankruptcy should always be considered as your last resort. |

In United states, you can get credit cards again after a couple of years, but the interest rate will be very high and if you're late a day or two - 2-3 times your rate will go up to 30% or so. 6 yrs later and I still can't get a new credit card with an int rate below 20% - I no longer keep a balance on any credit card anyway, but if I needed one for an emergency - it would be nice not to have to pay 30% interest |

Its up to the individual lender who they give credit to....there is nothing stopping you from applying for credit once you have been discharged from the bankruptcy....which could be anytime between 6 to 12 months
If you have made absolutely no contact whatsoever to the creditor in 6 years then the debt is statutory barred...that means the debt still stands but unenforceble through the courts |

I'm not sure, because you're speaking in a different monetary denomination, so am not sure if you are in America. But in America, you can get another card, eventually, after you file for bankruptcy. But you will have high interest rates and may have to pay a fee in order to start your account. You may have to wait about a year before getting another credit card. Just be careful with it this time!! Because they'll screw you with interest rates and fees if you're not. |

Yes, you absolutely can get credit cards. I filed for bankruptcy, and I was getting credit card offers before I even went to court. "Rebuild your credit!" "Everyone makes mistakes, we forgive you!"
I worked with a guy who filed 3 times in about 10 years, and still had a wallet full of credit cards. |

well here in the US a Bankruptcy stays on your Credit Report
for 7-10 years. About three years you can try and apply
for credit but at the highest interest rate the law will allow
we also have this site

You can bet credit including cards but only after your bankruptcy has cleared, either by paying off your debts or by "serving your time" (there is an official name but I don't know what it's called). The time used to be 7 years but I'm prety sure it has been increased due to the number of people declaring themselves voluntary bankrupt to excape debts. |

You'd not get anything on credit for 7 years after filing. |
