All This and Brains Too!
Is it true that after 7 years, any debt owed will be cleared from your credit report?

No. But each state has it's own statute of limitations. For example, you have an outstanding debt, you don't pay it nor do you file for bankruptcy. You don't communicate with the credit card companies (never answering phone calls). But if you answer them or promise them a time for payment, the statue starts all over again. But if not, ten the credit card companies only have a certain number of years to try to collect once the debt goes into collection. They may take you to court depending on the amount. But no, the amount will not be cleared from your credit report.

Hi!
Gawd! The truth is no..let me explain. First..there are things that will not be updated..that will roll off much sooner. I've seen this.I asked them to be updated (with correct info) and they were deleted instead..forever. Gone. Ok...

My current problem is with Capital One. They decided that seven years was not enough..and they felt like breaking the law. I have no idea how this will play out..but I will update with progress in my profile as it happens.

Truth is..90% of the garbage is off from my great credit mess of 2000. Two more lines will disappear in August..and five brand new lines will replace them.

I talked with two lenders yesterday. I was delighted to learn that many realize Crap One does not play by the rules..and have made allowances for this.

As always..your milage may vary. Bankruptcies may stay on there as long as 10 years...and I'm not sure how student loans play into this..I've never had one.

>>>I failed to mention tax leins and other debts (like owed child support) are treated differently as well...and do not roll off after seven years.

yes, go to www.adviceontime.com and read the article on credit.

well i looked at my credit report and something that i did back in the early 90s won't be resolved until 2012... so i think it all depends on the company.

No, if it is owed it can remain there indefinatly. Any paid collections will be removed after 7 years.

chasefranklin@sbcglobal.net
As long as the creditor is inactive in pursuit yes. However, they can opt to continue to re-up their demands for money and it can stay on for much longer if they choose.

No. If it is not paid, it will remain there indefinitely. A bankruptcy will go away after 10 years and generally, most paid debt will be removed after 7 or ten years. Anything that you still owe will be there until it is paid.

mamma of 4 : )
bankruptcy stays on for 7 yrs. And there is some stuff that stays on for 10 yrs.

NOPE!

NO...bad credit that has been resolved will disappear from your credit after 7 years, but if you owe money/ are in debt it will not disappear until 7 AFTER YOU RESOLVE IT!
