♡♪sing♪♡ | Is my credit messed up? |
Im new to credit cards and my mother said she will help me by paying them for now. So I left it up to her. I checked my account online and it said I was 5 days over due on a credit payment of 20 dollers. We paid it online, but we never got a statement in person. Is my credit messed up now or should I not have to worry? When should I worry? Additional Details this isnt the first time btw, its the second time I was late. |

If you only paid it 5 days late then it probably didn't go to collections. Contact the credit card company and explain what happened. Usually if you ask they will also take the late fee off (usually $39). You should be ine. if this is the 2nd time this has happened maybe you should consider taking over paying your own bills to avoid messing up your credit. |

Paying your credit card 5 days late will result in a late fee. The credit card company won't report you to the credit bureau unless you are 30 days late. However, its a pretty bad start to be paying late.
Some credit cards push the online statements instead of sending paper statements. If you are not getting paper statements, call your credit card company and ask for paper statements. You should always review the charges on the statement. |

Typically late payments of 30 days or more are most detrimental to your score. I wouldn't worry too much about this late payment but you might incur a late fee (as well as a higher interest rate) from the credit card company.
You might want to set yourself a reminder (and for your mother) to check the account online twice a month. That way you can keep on top of it. |

As a 30 year banker, my best advice is to get a copy of your free credit report, you can obtain once a year without cost.
Late payments always affect your credit, however the overall credit picture determines how much those payments weigh in. If you have a number of credit cards with large limits, you run the risk of the creditor thinking you can get yourself into trouble. If you also carry balances of over 50% of your available credit, you may definitely be in trouble. This affects whether you get a loan and definitely the rate charged.
Too few or too many credit accounts are equally as damaging, although too many is a definite deal breaker. Credit cards paid monthly (usually the balance in full), that you have had for an extended period of time are excellent references and a couple of late payments would probably be overlooked. There is really no reason for someone to have more than 2 or 3 credit cards at any time.
My advice to you is to #1- take back responsibility for you own financial responsibilities. Your mother shouldn't have to do this for you. You need to learn to budget and spend within your income. |

i would defiantly call the credit card company and make sure that it was payed!! was it taken out of a account any where? and i am going to tell you this credit cards are the devil take it from me i am in debt over my head i just lost my job and now i cant pay them if you are going to have a credit card don't charge on it unless you know that at the end of the month you can pay it off!! your credit should still be ok but definatly call the credit card company!!!
i know me losing my job has nothing to do with credit cards but i had a big problem (and my husband) spending more that we could afford!! make sure you can pay the bill!! we may be losing our house because fo credit card and the do start calling and it sucks when they do |

If you are old enough for the credit card, then you are old enough to make the payments. NEVER, NEVER let anyone else say they will pay your credit card bill for you. Then you are at their mercy. If you paid the card on line, you will always get a confirmation. If you did not, then you need to make a call. Once you screw up your credit, the bad marks will stay on for 7-9-or 10 years. You might want to check and see if they signed you up for electronic statements. That may be why you never received a bill. |

If you were
30 days late - it will effect you credit - for example - if your payment is due on the March 1st and youforgot to pay it and paid in on or after afpril 1st then it is 30 days late. But being 5 days late will not affect your credit at all - just make sure that if there is ever a late fee to pay that also or it will be counted as a 30 days late if you just pay a normal payment and not the late fee. Good luck and keep your credit good - it is VERY VERY important! |

On late payment won't hurt too bad. But its a lesson that it is your responsibility to make sure the payments are received on time - don't depend on the creditor to warn you. |

You have to start paying it on time. Usually it wont hurt you unless you are 30 days late. |
