Is no credit worse than bad credit?
As far as I am concerned Ihave no credit. I have just recently got a student loan, I don't know if that made my credit bad or not. How can I get good credit? I don't want to apply for credit cards because I heard that them checking my credit hurts my credit. Any suggestions?

Based on my professional experience of manually reviewing credit applications, and credit line increases I would say that there's no difference between the two. In my PERSONAL opinion I would say that "bad" credit would be worse.

Having "no" credit in certain cases is just as bad if not wrose than bad credit because with "no" credit, there's no point of reference. Lenders that look at your history, simply don't have anything to go by, which makes a person with no credit history just as risky as one that would have bad credit. A person has a better chance of getting good credit by simply opening and maintaing accounts responsibly.

Having "bad" credit on the other hand, can present some challenges that can prevent them from getting credit as well. With "bad" credit, one was able to establish credit at one time and for whatever reason, managed to trash their credit.

A person with bad credit would have a much harder time trying to rebuild credit, but thanks to laws that protect consumer credit like the FCRA(7 year rule), secured cards, and collateral loans, it provides options to help rebuild credit

no. bad credit stays with you for years, to start establishing credit, revolving credit cards are best. JC Penney, or Sears Cards. Use them, but keep your balance minimal! This will greatly boost your credit. Also avoid high interest loans, and failure to pay medical bills!

DAS
IDAHOCUT, is correct, bad credit is worse, because it shows you are not responsible, and it will stay with you for 7 or more years. Where when you have no credit you can eventually establish credit.

I agree with mmgirl, bad credit is much worse than no credit.

Yes bad credit is worse. If you just got a student loan your score is probably fairly low since that is the only active acct on your credit report, however once you start making consecutive on time payments your score will slowly increase. And yes credit inquiries do take a small hit on your score but as long as you don't go overboard getting one or two credit cards will help you in the long run as long as they are paid on time and if possible try to pay the full balance at the end of the billing period to avoid paying interest.

Bad credit is worse because it doesnt go away for like 7 years while no credit u can easily start getting credit as soon as you pay for utilities and other bills such as cable ect.

Bad credit is worse. This means that lenders can not trust you. The best thing to do to build credit is to get a secured credit card. One that you put money on, use and pay off at the end of every month. You need to establish a baseline and unfortunately this is the only way to ensure that you will have good credit.

If you keep your student payments current that is good credit.
If you get a credit card and keep your payments current and do not use the full amount of credit on the card, say no more than 75% this is good credit.

If you get a credit card the best way to use it is to pay it off entirely each month. Don't get more than a couple as your credit builds you will get offers from other credit card companies don't take them.

I think no credit is worse.
