This year, we are doing a kris kringle, so I will have just one present to buy. That will be a big saving on previous Christmases. For food etc., I will shop carefully, and hope not to break the bank. One thing for sure, I'm not going to borrow. It's far too hard to pay back. Better not get into the position in the first place.
Today on the radio someone described how a Dad told each child what he himself wanted for Christmas - the son who enjoyed writing - he was to get a story published soon, the son who never lifted a finger - he was to prepare the meal for guests coming to dinner in a month's time, etc. It made an interesting point - you can do things to please people by using time and effort - it doesn't always have to be about spending cash we haven't got.
