The thing with bank accounts is taxes. You have to have an adult sign until you are of legal age.

Yes, I had my own when I was 7 years old, of course that was many years ago, and the bank was sold to a bigger bank, but I believe Bank of America, and Washington Mutual do. I have a son but he is too young for his own account, and when I went to open him one up, at Bank of America, I believe the lady there told me they have to be at least 12. Good luck to you.

At 17 you can walk into any bank and set up an account. i have set up several for my own children as well as my step children that i am taking care of now. and one is only 9 yrs of age.......Just so that i can teach them how to handle money at an early age. I look at it the earlier the better.......

I am a banker. If you are 16, you DO NOT need your parents permission to open an account. If you are 15, you do.
also, once you hit 16, you are legally able to remove your parents authority from your account.

I don't think there is an age limit.
I opened my first bank account when I was 13 yrs. old
I did not need my parents permission, I did it on my own.

as long you have the proper I.D.

The bank where I previously worked, required a parent or legal guardian to be on the account with anyone under the age of 18. However, bank rules differ from bank to bank. Call around and see what the requirements are for different banks. Some banks even offer certain privileges to students.

northfaceexplorer
yes you can have a bank account from the moment someone sets on up for you. After the age of 16 you do not need your parents permission to withdraw from it. I am pretty sure you could probably set one up at 17 yourself though go and check with them!

If you have any money you can have a bank account. I started a bank account for my daughter when she was born.
I had my first account when I was about 10 years old.
