Is there any banks that let you open an account without having a credit check done?

Most unlikely bearing in mind the present financial climate - or to put it another way - probably only the Post Office ! ! !

And why would they do that? They are not stupid... What are you worried about? If you want to , you probably can get a basic account, to have wages or benefit paid in, but there will not be any credit or overdraft facilities,no chequebook or card.. Might get standing orders or direct debits paid for you...

Why not try a building society, a lot offer good interest rates, if not better than a bank.

Most will only require that you take in proof of ID such as a Passport, driving license, birth certificate and proof of address, such as a utility bill or council tax bill.

The only reason they may want to do a credit check is if you want an overdraft facility, loan or credit card

In short the answer to your question is NO - I presume with you asking this question that this is because you have adverse credit? If so then you needn't worry, banks will offer you a basic bank account regardless of your credit status. By 'basic' i mean one with no credit facilities. But a lot of banks offer you a debit card called either a VISA Electron or a Solo, the accounts also allow you to set up Direct Debits and Standing Orders and have wages/ benefits paid in etc.

The only other type of account that i can think that won't credit score you is a Post Office Card account but you can only withdraw money using your card at the postoffice and can only have benefits (not wages) paid in and there are no DD or SO facilities.

Other thing you could go for is a pre-paid credit card, i saw an advertisement for one saying that you can have wages etc paid in, but these charge you for paying in and withdrawing money which seems like a scam to me!

So to sum-up i would visit a bank such as Natwest, Barclays, HSBC, Co-Op and ask for a basic bank account and you'll be sorted providing you have the ID to open one.

Hope this helps x

probably not.

Try a credit union - they are very helpful, and sometimes have checking accounts for individuals with blemishes on their credit record.

Find one here: http://www.creditunion.coop/cu_locator/index.html

You can't open an account without giving them a socical security number and they use that to check your credit... so NO.. you can't do what YOU want to do.

confucious says
halifax barclays tsb all offer no credit check basic bank accounts and more than likely many more will do the three mentioned are just the one I know of the top of my head.

The banks and credit unions usually do hard credit check of your credit file when you open an account with them. They want to know your financial history in order to protect themselves from shady characters that commit fraud. Each hard enquiry may drop your FICO by 5 points.
