Is there anybody goes to jail for not paying their credit card balances?
got debt from a card company.

No. They just sue you for the balance and have a judgement against you if you owe that much money. Other than that, it's credit reporting. If however there is evidence that oyou opened these credit accounts for the sole purpose of raking up a balance and not paying and there was any fraudulent info given at the time you opened the account, then you can be investigated by law enforcement for fraud and theft.

I would think the debt would have to be pretty significant for them to throw you in jail. I mean, how do they expect you to work and pay off the bill while you are behind bars!?

No, there is no longer a debtor's prison. If you don't pay the interest will keep adding on and making your balance higher. They can also raise your interest rate making it even harder to pay. Work on getting a loan or find a card with a lower rate and do a balance transfer

If there is a Debit or Credit Card Fraud involved then you can go to jail, if you use some one elses card.
If you are in default the bank will harrass you at work and at home.
They will take you to court and get a judgement and garnish your wages, your credit score will tank. You will not be able to get a loan or you will have difficulty in the future. They could raise your interest rates, charge you late fees and over the limit fees, until you owed thousands more than you began with and then take on attorney and collection fees.

No, you will not go to jail for not paying. However the damage it will do to your credit may make life incredibly difficult for you. There are lots of debt settlement agencies out there that can get your debt reduced so it will be easier to pay off...

MadMan
No. There is no debtor prison any more.

Jordan
yes it's called credit card fraud, and in most cases is a misdemeanor punishable by about 6 months in county jail...

soz87
not in the uk, credit card fraud is different to not paying your bill. fraud is taking somene elses card and spending.
they may take stuff from your house thou, if they apply by the courts for a warrant, or if u own your home they can force u 2 sell bt agen only if they go throu da courts and the judge believes you can pay but wont.
hope you get sorted
