You pay for nothing unless you want to look at your score. You dont even have to enter a credit card number. Also don't check your credit report every 4 months as another user suggested. Too many inquiries will lower your score.

I've searched the net and NO, there is no place to get a free credit score. Even www.freecreditreport.com requires you to join Triple Advantage Monitoring and cancel before 30 days is up or else you get charged $12 per month. That's not bad though for a credit score. Most other places charge a lot more....Good Luck!
