Is this an option when buying a new car?
I would like to buy a new (or at least new to me) car about this time next year. My credit score is not very good, but I have been working very hard to get all of my debts paid off. I will be through paying off my last debt (other than the usual household expenses) with in the next six months.

I am planning to open a checking and savings account with Trulient credit union this week, and have my paychecks direct deposited into the account.

Will a bank/credit union give me (with poor credit) a car loan with a little bit better interest rate if my weekly paycheck is direct deposited into my account there, and I have them set up an automatic draft for the payment every month?

It's all based on risk and FICO (Which is a risk assessment). A large down-payment and you may have a chance.

Do this !!! Pay off your credit cards and all debt that you can with the exception of $100 on your lowest interest card. Make the minimum payment, about $10 every month, ON TIME, along with any other payments to creditors on time. In 12 months, you can increase your credit score by 100 pts. With a score over 700, any bank will loan you the blue book value of a car without any down payment. Good luck.

All you can do is ask.

It depends on the credit union. I bank with one where my account has been for 30 years. They tend to be more conservative than a bank. I know a website that about 6 of my friends have used, all had poor credit and all got financed at a pretty good rate. Check them out. http://www.1-800BadCredit.com

You can ask but I'd also check out an auto loan company like http://www.fundingway.com or http://www.car-loans-financing.com

Good Luck

It's possible...you have to remember that they know you can change or quit your direct deposit anytime, so they know you having your check direct deposited is not a 100% guarantee of payment for them...

Credit unions usually have better rates on loans (because they don't pay any taxes on any money they make from those loans! But that is a rant for another day) and it is usually a little easier to get loans from them too.

You will have a lot of the problems taken care of by not having any collections on your report and if you have any other credit the payments should be made on time for the next year.

DO NOT BUY A NEW CAR! It is a recipe for disaster for someone with bad credit...when you drive the car off the lot you loose 40% of the value just by driving over the curb. So if you pay $10k for a car, once you are off the dealers lot your car is now worth $6k...so you would be upside down in your loan and if you wanted to trade it in before the loan was paid off you would owe more than what the car is worth. Buy a one or two year old car and you will be much more likely to get a better interest rate and you will have an easier time paying it off!

Ree
Your interest rate is based purely on your credit score and usable monthly income. (That's just what lenders have explained to me.) So if your credit score and income aren't enough, it doesn't matter whether or not you set up automatic withdraw on your payment. I think you should really focus on your credit report and that will help a lot.

JAzzY
it depends on the credit union and how they score, what criteria they go by on your credit report.. it think credit union is a good idea to get an auto loan, they give better rates and the don't try to rob you the the dealerships do.

Araenall and Zina Rae are right. Work on your credit and put a large down payment. I think that is your only shot.

Not likely.
