If I got a new credit card, I would buy rock band 2, stock up on meat and bread that is for sale (buy one get one free or other big sales) to keep in the freezer.. and pretty much anything else that I knew I was going to have to buy anyway that is on a really good sale. I would also buy a huge bottle of top shelf liquor and request the next day off work.
This is assuming you have a special introductory APR... and have as little inhibitions as I do. |

Everyone is giving good ideas. Some studies are being reported that say you will spend several thousand $$$ less a year if you use cash rather than credit. Pulling the cash out of your wallet and handing it over lets you realize you are giving up actual money for what you are buying.
So, use it for something you can pay off in full at the end of the month. Don't ever carry a balance over. If you as an individual tried to charge the interest rate the credit card companies do, you would be prosecuted. |

nothing that you cannot afford to pay off at the end of the month.
Purchase some gas and pay it off at the end of the month
do this for ten months and watch your credit score climb.
If you use discipline now, when you really need it, it will be there |

A cheap item you would buy anyway. When the bill comes, pay it in full and put the card away.
If this is a card like Visa, Mastercard or Discover, use it twice a year, always paying in full. Keep it in a safe place at home the rest of the time.
Now is not a good time to run up balances on credit cards (not that I think there is ever a good time to do that). Work on building a savings account for emergencies. Prudent folks are going to be way ahead of the pack the next few years. |

Nothing. I would suggest not buying anything that you don't absolutely need and that you cannot pay off at the end of the month. This is not a time to have a lot of debt. Use the card for emergencies. Just because you have the card doesn't mean that you should go out and charge something. I would suggest using it about once every 6 months or so for a small purchase and then pay the bill in full when it comes. That will keep your credit current. Credit cards are how most people seem to get into financial difficulty. |
