Get a bank card.
If your credit sucks you'll pay 19% interest on a credit card. But I know people need to have a card to buy things electronically, so get a bank card and that should be enough. |

You really have 2 choices
secured credit card or an unsecured credit card.
With a secured credit card, you put a deposit with the credit card and your credit limit is typically the amount of your deposit. This is your collateral for the bank. Make sure you are paid interest on your deposit.
You can apply for an unsecured credit card. There are issuers that specialize in people with bad credit. But they come with high fees and may be over one hundred dollars. They include things like one-time application fees, processing fees and monthly maintanence fees.
Getting a secured credit card, especially if you have savings is the more cost effective way to go. Reestablish your credit and chances are you will be offered an unsecured credit card with 9-12 months.
Avoid prepaid credit cards or catalog cards even if they claim to rebuild your credit.

there are alot of credit cards out there, if your credit is bad they will give you what is called a secured credit card. What that is is a card that you put money toward, you send them 200.00 dollars and then your credit limit is whatever you put in it. Its a good way to rebuild your credit. |

The answer depends on the reason you want the credit card. There are prepaid credit cards www.greendot.com - but they won't help you rebuild your credit and you will not be able to rent a car with them.
THere are secured cards www.capitalone.com - these are availible to anyone who can make the deposite (or payments toward a deposit) and will help to rebuild your credit. Also, these can ab used to rent cars.
Capital One is a good place to go, because they will have a credit card for almost everyone, and don't charge high intrest rates until after you miss a payment or go over your limit. |
