jaffasnake2345 | My 12 year old son wants a kids credit card any good places you can recomend? |
He wants a proper card that he can use and not a pass book, he wants a good interest rate if thats possible. |

I recommend not getting your kid a credit card. |
|

Reality Check
|
"He wants a proper card"
"He wants a good interest rate"
Do you honestly hear yourself? Do you really think a 12 year old understands anything about card terms, interest rates, and can distinguish what is good and what is bad.
Seriously.... |

if you're giving a 12 year old kid any kind of credit card, you need to consult a therapist, not a bank. And by the way, no credit card would even be enforceable against someone that young. I hope this is a goofy stunt. |

There's no such thing as a "kid's credit card", at least not in the US. Getting credit from a bank is a legal obligation, and you must be old enough for the contract you sign to be legally enforceable.
At some banks, if he has a savings account, he can get a "cash card" or "bank card" that will allow him to withdraw his savings at an ATM, but there will be no line of credit extended and he won't be able to use it in stores. |

If you can get one for them you will still be responsible for tha.t debt, as the other person answer, you can load money on a pre-paid card. Or you can open up another card, and give them a card with there name on it, and only a certain spending limit. Just check with your local bank |

That's sad. Why don't you teach him how to handle money?
Responsible people don't play the credit card game.
Credit cards, along with the fico score was designed by banks to get people into debt and keep them in debt. Neither one is good for anything else.
Look thru these forums for a few days and see all the people that played the credit card game and are losing. Paying thousands of dollars a yr in interest and late fees.
Teach Him to pay as he goes.
Live on less money than he makes.
If he does this he will have money and not have to obsess with the fico socre. |

Well everyone else is correct. Your kid cannot get a credit card on his own. The options available to you are many. First, you could do as everyone else on here is telling you to do and get an "ATM CARD" or VISA BUXX, but those are almost the same thing as a pass book. I would suggest if your credit hostpry permits to open a credit card in your name and add your son as an authorized user this way he builds a credit history and you can go over the bill with him and financially educate him. |

Minors are not allowed to enter into legal binding contracts with anyone. I've never heard of a kid's credit card. Perhaps you may look into one of those pre-paid credit cards which are actually debit cards. |

Get him a visa buxx card I got one for my little brother when he was about 15 or so and he still uses it now at 18 (along with his other cards). You load it just like you would a gift card and can control and monitor the spending. Family members can put money in his account as well. There's no interest rate and the money is insured just like a normal credit card just in case he looses it. You can choose the bank that's best for you and he can make withdrawls and such like a bank card. It's a great learning tool with all the features like on-line banking and such and really prepared my brother for his first actual creditcard that he got right after he turned 18. check them out |

If he's 12 years old, he's not going to be qualified for a credit card. You can get him a prepaid credit card. It looks and works just like a credit card. The Upside Visa Prepaid card is the perfect solution for you. It's a reloadable prepaid credit card for teens and managed by parants. You can apply for one and deposit money into this card. Your son can then take this card and use it to buy anything up to the deposit you put. It's an excellent alternative for teens who wish to have a credit card. |
