My bank manager has requested to see me?
No doubt he wants to borrow some more money. When I last loaned him money, I told him that it was not 'normal' and he said the bank do it all the time - they lend money to people who can't afford to re-pay.
This time, he is once again saying the same thing. He says that when these poor people don't re-pay the original loan they couldn't afford in the first place, they write to them and offer them more loans. Then, when they can't pay that - that's when they repossess the house.
Shall I lend the miserable sod a few quid?

EDIT
HB, a rather unusual suggestion. However, I couldn't possibly lower my standards - even for week-end holiday home.

Under the customary terms of 32% interest and the same default clause used by the banks, it sounds like a golden opportunity to own a bank managers home.

I hear they can be great weekend get-away residences

Absolutely my good man. But this time, rather than just writing a blank check as usual, make sure you add some ownership responsibilities to the deal.
If you just give him the cash, he will do what most financial wizards do, book some golf or spa outing/convention. ( They say to brainstorm, re-organize business strategies etc, but we all know its just an excuse for some sexy party )
I say loan the money, but buy the outstanding mortgages. This will allow you to personally throw families out onto the street. Think of the pleasure you will have to rummage thru personal belongings, discarding things into the front lawns via open(or closed) windows.
This will be many more times enjoyable than the torture you make your servants endure....
As MasterCard says, enjoyment like this is "priceless"

A taxing question indeed.
As a shareholder in numerous high street banks myself, courtesy of Brown & Co Disorganisation LTD, I would suggest that your banker merely wants to line his own pockets, rather than prop up their Christmas bonus fund.
Lend him money if you wish, but charge him 182% interest - which is cheaper than Friends Provident's advert which was kindly placed on Y?A! last night.
I am of course assuming he won't be able to keep up with repayments, and that his mansion, his yaught, and his missus may well be up for auction in the near future.

Your money is safe. The loan is being guaranteed by his Darling Daddy.

I smell a rat here, Scoundrel!
A good bank manager ruthlessly hounds needy debtors - either into paying off their loans in full with hefty interest or into an early grave. Whichever comes first. In the latter instance he will then proceed to go after the surviving relatives. This system ensures the poor only darken a bank's hallowed turf with their presence if they are truly desperate and willing to remortgage their hovels.
No, my friend, I think your man is on the take. Bung him a fiver just this once to keep him sweet - but bristle your muzzy at him knowingly so he realises you're on to him!

What does the bank manager want to see you about? You need to see him if you want to borrow money from a bank. No the other way around.

Flyby
If the bank manager needs money it seems to me as though he should approach his own bank rather than a customer. If he can't get funding from his own bank then perhaps there is a reason. I would not lend him any more money. If he needs to come to you for money then there is something seriously wrong.
