My boss ran my credit without my permission?
I just found out that my current boss ran my credit report without my permission after I specifically told him not to. They lied to me to get my SSN and then ran it. My credit score is not good to begin with, and now it's even lower. I'm pissed!
What can I do?

not a thing he has the right to run your credit score without your permission they do this all the time for employment and it depends on what job you are in they can run it as often as they like if you are not happy with this then find a new job but he has the right to do so

Studly
Unfortunately, it's legal for them to get your report.

But those reports are a "soft" pull and do not get counted in the same manner as reports used for loan or credit purposes.

I'm sorry to hear about that, however it's completely legal for your current employer to run your credit report every so often just as it is for creditors you have an existing account with to run it when they want to possibly offer a limit increase. It shouldn't have lowered your score though ~ this type of inquiry is harmless

It is actually illegal (I know this now for a fact) and you can (and should) sue for the damages to your credit report! When you win, your employer will also be held liable for your legal fees. I'm surprised how many people rush to answer a question that you know nothing about--and with such judgment! Wow, next time do some research!

Not much you can do however there is a difference between a credit inquiry and an employee credit report. I think you should address your boss for lying to you and maybe try and dispute the inquiry with the credit bureau.

Check the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) website to see what your rights are. Your creditors can pull your credit without permission to increase credit lines because you have an account with them. But to tell you a ball face lie and pull your credit anyway is dubious. And no he does not have the right to pull your credit without disclosing it first. Any employer that uses your credit as part of the employment process MUST DISCLOSE to the prospective employee that a credit report will be pulled.

I would look for another job. Not because they ran your report, but because they lied about it. You can't trust a company that lies to your face.
