aramos801 | My cousin has been trying to get a credit card for the past few months, only to get rejected....? |
She has no credit history, so its not bad credit nor is it good credit. What is the best way she can obtain a credit card, where can build on her credit? I remember when I was in college, they had people getting all the Freshmans to sign up for a credit card. Then in two weeks, they mail a card to you. Now it seems you can't do that anymore. What can she do? |

Store cards are the easiest to get because their guildlines are more lenient. I agree with Cory, do not apply for too many because the inquirys will bring down a score that already does not exist because of lack of credit . |

well first of all... don't keep applying for credits cards because that will hurt your credit. If you really want to apply for a credit card to build credit, get a gas card. You will use that a lot and make sure it gets paid off every month. Dont buy store credit cards because you probably dont shop there enough to where it will really boost your credit. lots of places have cards for students and when I turned 18 I started getting preapproval offers in the mail. I collected them for a while and then picked the best one. |

Try for a Secured Card. BofA's 99/500 card gets good things uttered about it. |

A Credit card for people with bad credit is a form of borrowing that often involves charges. So it's wise to compare terms and fees before you agree to open a credit or charge card account. Try looking for a credit card<!--with a low APR. Find out the APR because this is the amount charged to you on monthly balances.

Are you overwhelmed with credit card offers and don’t know which one is right for you? Tired of looking for a credit card? Chances are you have received your share of credit card solicitations. Not sure-->which credit cards you should apply for? Shop around because not all credit cards for people with bad credit are created equal. |

I had a similar problem a couple years ago. I had never obtained a credit card at the age of 18. I did not want one, and did not want to get into debt. Several years later..I found it very difficult to get a credit card until I called a company directly and explained my situation. At first, I did not get any answers... they kept talking in circles. Then I finally found a MAJOR credit card company that understood I could not demonstrate my ability to gain credit without a card. I would suggest she make some phone calls and keep asking to speak to the big shots at the companies. It is ridiculous to punish people who choose not to get credit cards right away. I thought I was doing the responsible thing, but they explained I had no credit to verify I would be responsible with one of their cards. Tell her to not give up. Once she gets one.... the offers will come flooding in. |

First of all; I understand you are trying to build up credit, however...credit cards are not the way. In order to establish credit you must use it.STAY AWAY FROM CREDIT CARDS. The finance charges, late fees will kill you. If you are renting off campus, pay your rent and utilities on time. Utility companies and your Landlord can and will report late payments to reporting agencies. Utility agencies can also require a deposit when applying for an account. Good Luck. |

She can deposit some amount of money in order to get her Credit Card and later on after one year Bank will return her deposit. If she can't afford the deposit, then she can get a $500 worth of Credit even if she doesn't have any credit history and later on as her credit will build, she will be eligible to apply for more credit. |

She should try getting a store credit card. They are easier to get than regular credit cards. Once she builds her credit with a store card, she may be eligible for a regular credit card. |
