monsterfrank1980 | My cousin looked at my checkbook and I think he wrote down my routing and account #?Is there anything....? |
he can actually do with that?If he was to order something like on-line or something I would know and know where to find him.And if he was to try paying for a bill or something it would be traced to him wouldn't it? Is there anything he can do that he wouldn't be caught at,that I should watch for is my real question i guess?? |

Your cousin can't use your account number and routing number to monitor your account but he can use them to print checks with your account information on them and fraudulently pass them.
He can also use the information to fraudulently perform an ACH (electronic) transfer of money out of your account.
Every person you write a check to has the same information you are afraid your cousin might have written down.
You should monitor your account for fraudulent activity and if you believe your cousin is up to no good you could ask your bank to change your account number. |

Just to be on the safe side, go to your bank and close out your account, and open a new one. The routing number will be the same but it won't hurt you. |

HE can use the routing/account number for many things-- even paying his own bill. Usually this is done via the phone. You can also link that account to paypal and buy whatever you want online/ebay.
I'd ask for an account # change, or atleast monitor your checking account balance online, daily, and make sure there aren't any suspiscious charges.
btw, the other answerer makes a good point-- everyone who you write a check to gets the information too..... |

It is highly unlikely he will be able to take money out of your bank account without further proof of identity.
He could pay money in, however, so maybe he is planning a surprise ... |

every one you write a check to can see your routing and account # every hand that touches the check can see this #. It's up to the bank to check for the proper signature that's why you fill out a card when you opened the account. Altho if something comes up you may have some idea where to look. No crime has been committed yet. |

I have actually had this happen! Go to your bank and notify them. My bank put a stop to online or automatic payments unless there is a code. Also I must be notified of the transaction. This is a lot of work, and your bank personell must be on top of things. It is much easier to open another account. |

yes, he can use it. watch your transactions either by phone or online banking. Check it often for any transactions you didn't do. |

Anything he does can be traced. Just let your bank know of any unwanted transactions. |

You can go to your bank and do all the account transfer things etc..., but be forewarned. He can still go and write hot checks at all of the local merchants who do not have electronic verification. This could mean that you will start getting flooded with bounced checks in the next few months. In order to combat this you need to file a police report either now, if you are sure that he stole the info, or after you get notification of the first bounced check. |
