My credit card company is raising my APR. Should I opt out of the rate increase and close my account?
My credit card company is raising my APR in response to market conditions. Should I opt out of the rate increase and close my account?
Additional Details
Chase is raising my rate due to "market conditions". Although, two of my other chase cards rates are not going to be increased. When I talked to a chase rep he could not explain to me why some were increasing and some weren't.

Yes you should. You need to send a message to these credit card companies. The American taxpayer is now bailing-out these financial whiz kids. The US Government has given billions of dollars to troubled financial instututions AND the Federal Reserve has lowered interest rates. The result was SUPPOSED to be an easing of credit conditions in the USA so that our fellow countrymen and women can find it easier to borrow to make purchases. Instead, you are saying they are raising your rate? How unAmerican is that?

Find yourself a new card issuer with a better rate.

If this is your oldest account consider not doing that.
Length of credit history is 15% of your fico.

See if you can open another card with low balance transfer and low apr.
Go to bankrate.com click on credit cards

Pay off anything you can.
Don't close your account until you get another one.
Your fico will go down if you close your oldest account.

go here http://creditcardintent.com/ and apply for what ever card is best for you. dont use the one you have. in a while they will close it if you dont use it. but dont close it yourself

It sounds like you are in a position to close your account. So close the account if the rate increase inconveniences you. If however you pay your credit card bill in full every month the rate increase does not really impact you so in that case just keep it open.

Don't close your account, check with a credit union that you are eligible to join to see if you could get a better rate. Then do a balance transfer. Credit Union's always seem to offer lower rates than banks.

I had the same thing happen to me, and I am a good paying customer. I had it out with the company, tried to negotiate a better rate, that didn't work so the good news is that the new APR only applies to new balances so what I have on there already won't cost more. If you can't pay it off try to transfer it to a new card with a lower APR or work really hard to pay of that card but you should keep it open so long as the annual fees aren't high because length of accounts is important. The main goal should be to pay off credit card debt all together.

Hi, you always have that option, but just be mindful that if you opt out, your account would probably freeze immediately and you would no longer be able to use the card. Your rates would stay the same, but you would lose card usage. This is great if you plan to close the account anyway, but if you are under the impression that you can opt out, freeze your current APR and continue using your card, that would be incorrect. Also, if you do decide to discontinue using your card, don't immediately close the account. Wait at least three to six months and then close. Closing too soon could actually decrease your credit score if you weren't aware. Hope this helped.

Yes since that is a load of --- My card apr did not increase.
Call and let them know this increase is unsatisfactory and you are taking your business else where

Dont close your account, it can affect your FICO score. Just apply with another company for lower rates.
