I purchased some goods at a online store that gave me an employee discount. A week later I was informed by the store owner that my credit card number and address was posted on the Internet (along with others), so I canceled that specific bank credit card and had a new one issued. However, last week I applied for new credit and was told that my identity could not be verified, so I was denied new credit. How do I prove I am me? I am at a loss of what I need to do. I have good credit, a good job and now this! I already monitor my account through myfico. Is there any step I need to do to ensure my credit is not further compromised? Do I need to freeze my accounts, contact credit bureaus? What steps? PLEASE HELP! |

If the account is not on fraud alert, how could you be denied. Run your free credit reports through annualcreditreport.com or call them toll free @ 1-877-322-8228 for all 3 free reports. Once you receive the credit reports,check Trans Union, there should be a reference # on the top right hand side. Call their customer service # @ 1-800-916-8800 and ask the rep what they can do for you. |

try identityguard.com i use this to monitor my credit. it scans the internet and chat rooms that sell people's credit card numbers and identity to others and you register different credit cards and it monitors this. i believe their services are between $12.99-17.99 a month. |

Identity Theft and or Credit Card Theft are one in the same. Have you ever heard of Prepaid Legal? Well you had mentioned that you have MyFico monitor your credit. Well with Prepaid Legal and their Identity Theft program helps you “restore” your credit. Other company’s such as MyFico only monitor your credit but they do nothing to “restore” your credit. Contact the credit card companies, and freeze all the accounts or cancel the cards... and contact the police to launch a fraud investigation.
My dad got his identity stolen by using his bank card somewhere, and we had to launch an investigation, and once it's proved you didn't spend the money, it won't affect your credit.
The best thing to do is stop using the cards, and don't open new ones until you get it sorted out.
If it was your bank card stolen, you may need to withdraw all of the money, clear out the account, and open a new one.
If someone has been spending your money on credit cards...call the company and ask for an itemized statement, and any purchases that weren't from you, look into.
Contact either the credit card company OR the actual retaler the item was bought from and get the shipping address, take it to the police and find out who's been using your card.
Call a financial advisor to get it straightened out, AND
in order to verfiy your identity, you should be able to use your social security number/card. Unless someone stole the number..that's the one thing that can prove youn are who you say you are.

You need to contact the big 3 credit reporting agencies and ask them for advice. They can help you. They probably have a hold on your name in case someone obtained your info and is trying to misuse it. |

wow i would be mad at that company that posted my info....sounds like they have contacted the credit bureau and placed the alert info on your account...what you need to do now is contact the three companies and ask them why you could not open this new account...and how you can actually get around this problem..and if there are any fees to be paid..id make sure the online store took care of all of them due to their incompetence |
