welcome to my world, and 7500 isnt that bad specially for student loans, try to pay off some of the accounts and keep track of your credit on line, and if you still cant put your credit in order bankruptcy is a option but is not a easy fix and the laws pretaining to a bankruptcy change all the time so contact a bankruptcy lawyer or really determine your rights and laws. sometimes claiming bankruptcy can be worse than not. |

Bankruptcy is for when you can't afford to pay your bills any more and owe too much. You need credit counseling. |

No, don't declare bankruptcy. Call a credit counseling agency and ask them to help you negotiate a payment plan. |

7500 isn't worth declaring bankrupcy over. My uncle owes over a hundred grand, now THAT'S screwed. Cut your expenses, pay them off as soon as you can and most importantly, NEVER USE A CREDIT CARD OR BORROW MONEY AGAIN! |

First fo all, I know from past experience that you are able to call the student loan company and make payment arrangements with them, no matter how far behind you are. They will most likely make you pay $50 a month. You also cannot bankrupt student loans under bk laws.
Second, for the rest of your debt, call them up and ask them to take a settlement offer and pay them off one account at a time.
Claiming bk for $7500 is just not worth it. Be patient and pay them off one by one. |

Bankruptcy would cost $600; Debt Settlement would cost about $4800. Credit Counselling would likely cost $200 per month. Do It Yourself Credit Repair would run you about $20 and you would probably feel a lot better about yourself knowing that you worked and followed through on a program to benefit your credit. Usually companies charge hundreds of dollars to simply pull your credit and send correctly worded dispute letters—this is the key…..people will tell you that you can do this yourself for free but the truth of the matter is that the credit bureaus will throw your letters away or simply reject them. There is an easy to use online kit that will deliver the results you want available for just $19.95 at the source website. A similar kit is being sold via infomercials and radio talk shows for seventy dollars more but they try to solicit you repeatedly for other services after the fact. |

Probably not...my husbands credit was the same way and we paid off a lot of the debt. It has helped his a LOT!! Call the debt collectors. They will usually cut the debt in half for you, or work out some kind of payment plan for you. If you can't afford to do that right now than just wait it out. Most of the stuff will start to fall off within seven years or so, and then you will just have to start trying to rebuild your credit. It want be easy, but it can be done! Good Luck! |

First of all - when you file bankruptcy - they will NOT include your student loans - you have to pay those back. How much do you owe without your student loans? Probably not that much right? I'm in the middle of filing bankruptcy right now. I am 22, a student, and I have about as much debt as you but I also have a house that is in foreclosure on my record...anyhow, I'm filing because I'm still a student and I wont be able to pay all my skyhigh interest rates (30%!!!!!) and bring all my accounts to current and all that...so that's why I'm filing. If youre really worried - you can go to a bankruptcy lawyer and get a free consultation, but keep in mind, if you do decide to file...Filing bankruptcy anymore isnt cheap either! My god its gonna cost me $1000 to file.....so keep that in mind. I would contact the credt companies and try to work out a payment plan. If you have more questions, - email me - I'm going thru bankruptcy right now! =) GOOD LUCK!
If you file bankruptcy - you carry it for 10 years on your credit report my attorney says - but you will start getting credit card offers again in like 2 years...and can have good credit again. Filing bankruptcy will give you a fresh start. |

Bankruptcy will not help you, I repeat, NOT help you. Bankruptcy will, in fact, ruin your credit score. It is best to first gather your bills and lay them out from least to largest. Pay off the smaller amount ones first and move your way up. In doing this, it will look like you are finally getting your act together, which you are. When the Fair Issac Company (FICO) sees this, they will give you better score. Word like mad to make the money to pay off these debts and when you finally do, stay out of debt by not over spending.
NOTE: I am NOT a CPA or any other type of financial professional. This Excerpt is my opinion ONLY and should be treated as such. If it makes sense to you and you like the idea, then form your own plan that parallels mine. |

I wouldnt give up just yet....your credit score is bound to fluctuate several times over your life....with cars, house(s), credit cards...etc. But declaring bankruptcy will maybe rid you of the present bills-but then you'll be stuck with the stigma and possibly considered a risk to anyone considering giving you credit. It may make it harder in the long run...and student loans are what I like to call a "necessary" debt- meaning you need/have to get a higher education these days to make any real money, so at least its not like you went on a shopping spree with a credit card! I am in school and am getting student loans...but what is my alternative? Not going? NOT an option! I dont want to be earning the minimum wage bracket for the rest of my life when I could get a degree and pay it off in 5-10 years. I believe bankruptcy stays on your credit for at least 7- and again the stigma. Stick it out- you'll be glad you did- it will show you what your made of! Hope this helps! |
