Put her on one of your cards to establish a credit history. Don't do it if you don't trust her spending habits. |

The easiest credit card for your daughter to get would be a student credit card. She will first have to go to a bank, not a very prestigous one, one like wells fargo and get a student checking account and apply for the card when she opens the account, she will most likely get the card. She must be a student at a college, also some jobs have free checking to where you can get a credit card easily through benefits. |

American Express has a program for students, but be careful, as it has to be paid off every month - no matter how high the balance! |

There is no specific card that is the answer. It is best to establish a checking account in her name at a local bank and maybe get a small loan from that bank for $500 and pay it back over a short period, say 3 or 4 months. Keep the money to pay the loan back also. The interest may be around 10% or a little higher, so you want to pay it off quickly. The next thing I would do is go to the same bank and ask for their credit card. For example, Chase uses VISA. Doing this, you end up getting a better interest rate for a FIRST TIME credit card. Closer to 9% instead of 17% or higher. If your daughter already has credit established, such as a car loan from a dealership (be careful about using a bank for a car loan because it shows up differently on your credit), then you may be able to go ahead and get a card through the bank. After about a year, you might try Capitol One and see if she can get an even lower interest rate. It will not hurt her credit to transfer balances at that time. Try not to close out the other card though. Use it occasionally and pay it off EVERY month like a checking account. It can't hurt to have it for emergencies. Basically, it is all about interest rates for purposes of paying off the balances. A credit card is necessary for a few things, and she will need two or three credit cards with LOW balances and minimal payments when she is ready to apply for a mortgage. |

If she has a job, a jewelry store card, then after paying off purchase and establishing credit with that company, a store card, then a bank card. A jewelry store card will have a high interest, around 21%, so keep your purchases low. Only purchase one item, pay if off, then apply for a major store card, also having a high rate, 18%. After establishing and paying off that card, a bank card. You as her parent, should be very direct in explaining the dangers of misusing a credit card. Have her do the math and show her the amount she is really paying for an item. And ! establishing credit, paying it off, moving up the chain, takes time. After proving herself as a responsible individual, her earnings will rise, her credit limit will rise, and the interest rates will fall. Never pay for the privilege of using someones card or agree to a rate higher than 21%. Always shop around and look for the lowest rates, they are out their. |

find her a prepaid visa or mastercard...do a search on that in yahoo. then pick one. you fund it thru your bank acct. she uses it as debit card, but it gets reported to the bureaus and builds her credit. That way, she is not looking at horrible rates b/c she has no credit! |

If she's employed, a gasoline card at your local filling station. It's a safe bet to establish credit; it's a low credit limit and something she's buying every month anyway. Be sure to coach her on budgeting her income and paying it off everymonth. |

The American Express Card (Not blue, just the basic card). It is also, in my opinion, the best one to get because she has to pay it in full every month and cannot run herself into debt. Also, this card will establish good credit for her. |

If she has a checking or savings account at a bank, that's usually a good place to get a first credit card from. With no credit record, there is no distinct advantage in searching for competitive interest rates, and a lot of banks can arrange for your new credit card to have overdraft protection, meaning if the checking account gets overdrawn, the amount overdrawn gets automatically charged to the credit card rather than putting you in the red and assessing an overdraft penalty, which is typically about $20-30 plus a few more dollars for each day that the account remains overdrawn. As long as there is no annual fee, one credit card will pretty much be the same as the next except for the overdraft protection. |
