Credit card companies and debt collectors CAN garnish your wages, depending on the state you live in. Someone said that they cannot, but they can. If you live in PA, NC or TX (I don't know about other states), wage garnishment can only be used to collect taxes owed, child support, student loans, etc.
As for moving to another state, it won't stop collections but it will probably delay it. If your friend is moving to a consumer friendly state, it may work out for him in the end.
Good luck. |

Collection companies do something called skip tracing. As soon as he get's a job they will find him. This will trash his credit though, which will be no good for him. |

they will find him. the best think for him to do is to come forward and explain the situation to them and infomr the companies he will make payment as soon as he can. They an not garnish his check for payment, we do not have debtors prison! good luck to your friend |

Credit card debt is unsecured debt. The companies can't garnish wages.
With that said, tell your friend to pay his bills! |

It's what credit collection agents are paid to do....they will find him. They will contact him 10 years from now looking for him to pay back the same debts....it's what they do. How they do it....well, does it matter? He isn't going to be able to avoid them, or his debt. Each time he opens an account, gets a job, applies for new credit, lives somewhere, pays taxes, etc...his credit file will reflect his most current contact information. They will use all of their resources (and many unethical and sometimes illegal) to get him to pay up. |

They can get information from companies he does business with especially cell phone service. Trust me, he won't be able to hide from collection agencies too long |

he should call the credit card company and make arrangement. explain to them that you do not have a job and maybe they can work something out with you. the worse thing that can happen is that they will send your credit to the Credit Bureau. |

They will find him. If he uses his SSN to do anything with (apply for a job, rent an apt, open utilities) then the Collections will search his SSN and find where ever he is living. |

The collection agencies can pull up the current address from his credit report. You can run, but you can't hide. ;) |

They'll follow him. It may take some time, but they will find him. They have all the information they need. |

He will have to fill out information when he gets a job. The collection companies will find him through his credit report. |

The collections agency isn't going to go out on a man hunt for him, they never do they wait for people to pay, via calling 20 million times a day.. Also they can garnish wages if it gets to that point, but no there won't be people out on the look out. |
