It's a security question. Not many people would know your mothers maiden name.
If in the future somewhere down the road, you forget your password, they ask you your mothers maiden name to prove it's really you before they go handing out your password to strangers. |

sometimes this is done for account security. IN that way, when you call up to inquire of your lender, they can ask you for this information to verify who you are. |
