Your husband should tell nicely to butt out. Is she paying your bills, etc.
She has no business in your business. She should let you two make your mistakes and learn from them. She needs to realize that he's married now, and she can't do what she is doing..

Talk to your bank and let them know about the problem.

Change passwords

lisa w
how do you know that she is in there checking your accounts?
If you do ask her (even if you do it nicely) why would you think that that would make her stop
If you husband has not said anything to her, you should not either. (get a seperate bank account or change banks).

i dont see how she could check your account without your husband's permission or knowledge.

Most of my accounts are password protected. Aren't yours?

Your online accounts should be password protected. You can place freezes on your credit reports.

I would have to ask how she accesses these things. Online with a password protected account, or, on the phone.
Change any passwords you have.
Talk to her immediately and tell her she is not to do this any more. If you don;'t stand firm, she'll never stop.
Explain to her that using someones including your own grown childrens ssn's to obtain info or especially credit reports with out their express permission can land her in jail.
Do call an attorney to see what can be done legally.
She sounds like a control freak who is unwilling to let her son have a life and family of his own.
Good luck

This is a control issue.

It is not up to you to "ask nicely." If your husband's mother is still investigating his finances after he has become a married adult, it is unlikely she will ever stop for any reason, short of incarceration.

If you wish to have any financial privacy, you must establish your own personal accounts.

Do not simply create new joint accounts with your husband, you cannot rely upon him to withhold the passwords from his mother.

Be aware that the control issues may run so deep that your establishment of a separate financial identity may be a catalyst for severe marital discord.

How does she know your SSN?
Have your husband tell her she needs to stop. Maybe she'll listen to him; I doubt very much she'll pay attention to what you say.
This isn't even legal. If she doesn't cut it out, threaten to have her arrested for identity theft.

This is SO unacceptable, and I'm sure that if you brought this to her attention, she would see how crazy it is that she's doing it. Ask her nicely whether or not she thinks it's normal/appropriate for her to do so. Also ask her why she feels it is necessary to do so. Hopefully this will make her realize how ridiculous it is that she does this.

Sockfinder!
Call the businesses (banks, et.) and tell them of the situation, and they will add a higher level of security, such as a passcode. They deal with this stuff all the time. She will be too embarrassed to ask for it, hopefully, and if she does you can tell her that it is inappropriate.

Now, can your husband keep that passcode away from her? You may have two problems.

kem
you can't even question her about something like that. You should talk to your husband first, then go to your bank to add a password in your accounts , change your account number if you have to, get your own personal account.
