Contact the credit reporting agency that has the debts listed in your name. If you contest the accuracy in ANY way, they MUST keep your reasoning on file. Because you were a minor, you cannot legally be held responsible for the debt because you cannot legally sign a contract,as most debts would require.
Also, contact a lawyer to see if there's anything further you can do. |

First get a copy of your credit report from all 3 reporting bureaus. Remember, you can't legally incur debt before you are 18 years old. You must be of legal age to enter into any contracts.
So, and few copies of your birth certificate to all negatively reporting parties should solve all of your issues
They must remove negative items once they have proof of your age at the time. But, keep checking your own credit reports until this mess is cleared up. |

You can actually file to one of the three credit report firms in the US and they can remove damaging reports from your credit if you can prove you weren't really at fault. |

This ticks me off everything time I hear it happening.
If you really want to raise cain, contact each company that had bills in your name before you were legally old enough to sign for them. Demand that the debts be withdrawn on the basis that the contract was invalid. If they refuse (which they will), hire an attorney and have him or her send a cease and desist order to each one, demanding cancellation of the debt and a reflection on your credit bureau that the accounts were opened in error.
The downside of this is that your parents will probably get sued by the companies.
The option of least contention is to build your credit from scratch. I think your parents owe you (at the least) an apology and some help with getting your finances in better order.
The good news is, those debts leave your credit bureau after 7 years. Of course, that puts you 7 years behind everyone else. |

Try using a credit counselor, maybe they can prove to creditors u were not of age at the time accounts were opened. |

Unfortunately, his happens alot more often than anyone thinks. There are plenty of companies out there that just don't verify information before extending credit. People have been known to open credit accounts in their kids and even pets names before.
You can contact each of the 3 credit bureaus and file a dispute. Have the date each account in question was opened as well as your Birthday documented and they will have to place your dispute in the file. Be sure to include that you were not legally of age to have any type of credit extended to you at the time that the credit was opened.
It will take a while to have the items removed.
It may be quicker to have a lawyer help you out.
Also, start calling all the creditors and get addresses. Send them certified(maybe even notarized) letters with copies of your birth certificate stating that you were a minor at the time the bills were incurred and that you want them removed from your file.

That is impossible to do. You have to be at least 18 years old in order to have a credit card or even for utilities. Make up a better lie. |
