My sister used my credit card? What can I do?
She owes about $15,000 and doesn't want to pay it. Is there anything I can do for her to pay it? Can I get the debt on her name?
I don't want to press charges because she is my sister but I can't pay for something I didn't use.

Any advice would be good.
Additional Details
She didn't make charges, she ordered checks and made them out to her account.

Yea your only option would be to take her to court, I understand that she is your sister but she obviously doesnt care that much about you if she did that to you and man 15000.00 is ALOT. She needs to be held accountable for her actions if you dont want to sue then you just have to deal with it, but she screwed you and you are going to be on the hook for it. She doesnt sound like a good person much less a good sister to you.

This doesn't ring true. Did she in fact steal the card unknown to you or did you let her use it? $15K sounds like an awful lot to run up without you knowing about it.

If you're not taking her to court, then say bye to that money :P I duno what else you can do to make her pay up lol.

Unfortunately because the card is in your name the debt is soley your responsibility.

If she wants to help pay it back she can take out a loan and pay off the card, or transfer it to one of her own cards. But you won't be able to do it unless she agrees.

tholeeder
you are liable for authorized charges on your card. but if not authorized you might have to press charges to prove you didn't authorize them. notify your card company about the checks ,do it soon, they might can stop payment.

Deny the charges. Deny the checks. if it's not your signature on the checks then it's fraud. They'll give you back your money, but it is likely they'll go after her criminally. It could get very ugly.

Excuse me , if you order checks on a credit card , they would be mailed to the main cardholder's address. You should have been contacted by the bank anyway. You should immediately contact the bank to stop payment! This is beginning to sound like unauthorized use. She used your card without your permission I assume? Otherwise ,Like Erin says, You are completely and totally responsible for all debts incurred on your card.

Well, first of you MUST change your pin. Second of all, make sure she co-operates, and pays the fees she owes you or you will have to charge her. Another way is to call your card company and explain the situation, then they will take control and sort it all out for you. =)
