Check with the Jewlery store and see if they have a LayAway program. You won't get the ring until it it paid off, but you then have no outstanding debt. |

I hate to break this to you, but the best thing for you to do right now is NOT to get a loan..
Hell, you just got out of bankruptcy and now you need to buy a symbol of affection when you KNOW FULL WELL you don't have the credit to qualify???!!!
Stop trying to fit a square peg in the round slot.
And let's be clear -- a bankruptcy less than 4-5 years ago IS a BIG ISSUE by itself. You need to fess up to your girl and instead buy her a ring you can afford or even delay the purchase of the ring until your bankruptcy has AGED a bit more!
If this woman loves you FOR YOU, then she should have no problem waiting until your credit situation improves. However, if you have down-played your credit situation to her and are trying to hide your inability to qualify for a small personal loan, then the engagement is already starting on the WRONG FOOT!
You know all of this -- but I think you are so scared of losing your soon-to-be fiancee that you are willing to avoid addressing the real issue here. |

I agree with DaMan. However, if you just can't get by without a loan, go to http://www.prosper.com. You can apply for a loan there and set your own interest rate. It isn't guaranteed, but it is worth a look. You will be asking several people to finance your loan, but you will only pay to one financial institution. You have 3 years to repay the loan. |

Get what you can afford now - and something bigger and better (if that is what you want) down the line. Here is another idea: Get your birthstone as the engagement ring. Unless you are an April! It is good luck to have your fiancee's birthstone set in your engagement ring. You can get smaller diamonds around the birthstone. That way, your future bride will have something UNIQUE! As for credit, the best way to get credit is to get a card (even if it is one you have to put a deposit on) and use is for small purchases once a month. When the bill comes, pay it off on time. Your credit will be rated each month and should improve! If your BK was discharged 2 years ago, you should start receiving offers for credit cards soon, if you haven't already. Another note, interest rates don't matter as long as you pay off the CC each month (you won't be charged interest). Beware of Sears and Discover (Novus Network) because they will give your score a poor rating if your payment reaches them even one day after the due date!!!
