OMG I can't pay this.?
I just got my Visa bill and it is over 800.00, I bought some stuff recently and it bumped up my minimum monthy payment wayyyyy toooo much, Oh my god-I cannot pay them 800 a month. Do I call them? What are my options? This has never happened to me before.

So your minimum monthly payment is $800? On one card?? Your balance would have to be enormous. Make sure your it's not your BALANCE that is $800, which would make your min payment around $10-20. If it is $800 you owe this month, call and verify why. Tell them you can't make the payment and ask what you can do. If they won't budge, see if you have another credit card that has a 0% interest offer that you can balance transfer. But first off, read your statement and be sure what you're looking at. Then call the company.

What you mean OMG? You spend the money.

Wait, your *minimum payment* is over $800 a month? How much is your total balance, for heaven's sake?

The only thing I can suggest is that you run back to the mall and RETURN some of the stuff you bought. You obviously can't afford it.

The next thing I suggest is that you find the sharpest pair of scissors you own and cut that card into little tiny shreds, and don't even THINK of replacing it until you've paid off what you already owe.

You can always contact them and explain your situtation.. FYI: They tend to only have programs to assist you when you are multiple months past-due.

Contact your local Red Cross for a referral to the local Consumer Credit Counseling Services (CCCS) in your area. They can negotiate much lower payments and interest rates. They DO NOT negotiate settlements.

They will require you to stop using all credit and to cut up your cards. Your credit report will be updated to "enrolled in debt management." This does not damage your credit, but it may make it impossible to obtain new credit while you are enrolled in their program....so don't use this service if you anticipate applying for a new apartment, car loan or mortgage anytime soon, as you would probably be denied while you're enrolled in the CCCS debt management program.... Otherwise, it can be a very good way to deal with your debt.

Please note that CCCS cannot perform miracles in situations where there is an overwhelming level of debt relative to your income/assets. CCCS is technically a non-profit organization, it is also partially supported/promoted by the credit card industry. My only concern with CCCS is that they would discourage a person from filing for Chapter 7 when in reality that would be in that person’s best interest. Sometimes Chapter 7 bankruptcy is the only solution to overwhelming debt.

Don't let anyone smear or guilt-trip you for making this decision if you have to...especially all the people who like to quote Dave Ramsey who think that BK should always be avoided....this is ridiculous advise that only benefits credit card companies...Of course BK should be avoided if at all possible...but sometimes it is needed. Do what's best for you and your family. Corporate America uses BK all the time and no one slams them.

Just remember that you can only file for Chapter 7 once every eight years....so if you file, you won't be able to discharge your debts again for eight years, even if you find yourself in a worse financial situation..

STAY AWAY from any debt settlement firm you see advertised on cable TV or the Internet...they will only make things worse for you.

Your option was not to charge things you couldn't afford. If you call, they may work with you on a payment plan and suspend your card so that you cannot add additional charges.

Return the stuff - you obviously can't afford it.

I'm confused. First you say your bill is over $800. Then you indicate your minimum monthly is $800.00. Big difference. Either way, call immediately and set up payment arrangements. Cut the card up.

You can call them and make smaller payments?..

Your BALANCE is $800, or your minimum payment is $800? You'd have to have a HUGE balance for the minimum payment to be $800!!

Pay what you can. You'll pay extra fees if you don't make at least the minimum payment, plus extra interest of course, plus depending on the company the interest rate could go up. I'd call them and tell them that you are only able to pay $x this month if it's less than the minimum payment.

john n
Don't panic. As long as you can meet the minimum monthly payment, they won't bother you and your credit won't be adversely affected. Just pay what you can afford, you don't have to pay it all at once.

Call try to negotiate payments without interest. If they do not listen cancel the card...oh yeah ask to speak to a superviser. Pay cash.

you need to call them and be as nice as you can be, and maybe try to set up some sort of payment plan, but honestly you might need to look into a loan to refinance your card,
