No you didnt mess it up. BUT if this is yer first late or missed payment in a while, or at all, call yer credit card company and ask if they can waive or excuse it, and tell them u always make yer payments on time. I just did that about 5 minutes ago w mine. They are gunna credit me 40 bux back to my account for a late fee. Doesnt hurt to try.
ps just so u dont have to worry bout makin payments on time, sign up for automatic bill pay online. itll deduct the amount u set out of yer checking account.
pss. it wont affect u like the person below stated, so dont worry. Ive had credit cards for years. |

depending on how late it is i think you should be fine...if it was the first offense they will just charge you extra next time but they def. wont report you to the credit agencies YET don't do it to much. |

if it is over thiry days, pretty bad. If it is only late according to the crdit card ( I think they give you 10 days to pay) then it will only effect you interest rate, probably will go up to 26%. I have actually seem a client (I was in the mortgage business) drop 97 points right in the middle of the refinance. It cost him an extra $247 a month in a higher payment because of his lower score. Now all credit reports are effected the same. I had another client that already had a few other lates and one more late only lowered his scoroe 3 points. Go figure. Over time the harm will deminish. The older it gets the less points are taken off. I work for a credit attorney now. |

One late payment won't hurt you much. Just take pains not to repeat it. |

Right now, Forget your credit score...the main thing you need to do is square this with your credit card company.
I had a capital one account a few years ago. I made a late payment...I called them and they credited back the late fees to my account...I thought my problem was solved....
It was not until I got a love letter from them informing me that my NEW interest rate was 23% did I realize why they didn't mind refunding the late charges.
They got the money back that next month in interest.
If your interest rate is going to climb, this might be a great time to consider a new credit card and transfer your balance to that one. |

You will be fine this time.. try to keep them on time from now on. Usually they give you a grace period so you may not even get a late fee. If you do get a penalty it will be a fee and not a fit on your credit. Just do not make it a habbit |
