With the new changes in the scoring system, unless you're a "co-signer" or "co-applicant" it will not build credit if you're a "secondary" or "authorized" user. One credit bureau has completely ignored that practice altogether, while the other 2 will discontinue the practice sometime this year. There is a slight chance that it may temporarily work until that happens, but once it does, the process is retroactive meaning that it will ignore everything that has happened before as well. |

Depends if your joint yes if your just an authorizeduser than no. |

Not any more. That situation pretty much ended late last year, when FICO (Fair Isaac) revamped its computer systems to no longer give credit score boosts to authorized users. Fair Isaac took that measure because of abuse of the system. |

I don't think you can be a co-signer on a credit card, that's only for loans.
Secondary users do not build good credit. It only has a bearing on the primary card holder. In other words, apply for your own credit card and start building your own credit. You may get denied at first, but eventually some card will extend you credit. |

As long as your social security number is being used on the account it can help, yes. It can also hurt your rating if the card is not kept in good standing or payments are made late. |

No.
the account is in your mom's name.
As one who see credit / debt as a problem facing our country, I believe you should not spend money you don't have. |

I don't think it would as the credit checks and credit profiling would have been done on her and not you. |

If she added you as an authorized user, then no it does not help your credit report. If she put you on a joint account (this would mean that she would need your social security number and your signature) this would be the only way that it would benefit your credit report.
Hope this helps! |

If you are listed as a user, no. Your social security number would not be tied to that card, so nothing would reflect on your credit report. If you are listed as a co-signer then yes, because you social security number *would* be tied to the card. |
