I went to a free credit report website and look on my husbands credit report; but I just don't want to let him know that I'm checking his credit report and score. Echo is right (when will I learn to stop questioning her answers....)

Soft inquiries are recorded. So if hubby ever did secure a copy of his report, he will wonder why the CRA looked at his account. But it would be nearly impossible for them to track down who actually received it.

And BY LAW your credit score is not effected by getting your own credit report. I, too, wish people would quit spreading this nonsense.

No, but if he tries to get a free report it will show that he already had a free report in the last 12 months. More important, you both should share credit information. Something is wrong here when you have sneak and see his credit report. Finances and being open about them is crucial to for your marriage. You need to talk to your husband.

echo
Probably, if he knows what to look for.

When you order a report, it will show, in the soft inq. section, that it has been pulled by the credit bureau. Which means the person who the account belongs to has ordered it.

he will kow if you did a query on his report and also if you used his account he will see the last time the account was accessed. What you need to do is stop being so insecure and trust your spouse. If you have a question for him just ask and don't be a sneak, shows little faith and or trust in your spouse.

Everytime you check a credit report--other a collection agency--a mark goes on your report. As it does when you appply for a loan, a credit card, anything that involves a line of credit. Not to mention that you can get in some serious trouble if he hasn't alotted you permission to so, as it's considered an invasion of privacy by the law. I would reconsider if I were you.

No, they don't know. I opened my ex's to find out his expenses and credit score and he never knew. I do it once a year because he owes me back child support. I get his social security statements too to check on his income.

Well, just act normal.

I am compelled to answer this question, based on all the misinformation in the previous answers.

If your ex decides to go to http://www.annualcreditreport.com and pull his own credit reports, he will know somethings up because http://www.annualcreditreport.com only allows you one pull a year. If he is not the type to do this sort of thing than you have nothing to worry about.

You DO NOT get dinged for pulling your own credit so it will not effect any credit scores. However, If you did get found out you would be in serious trouble with the feds. This is called Identity theft. If your ex wanted to "level the playing field", this could do it for him.

Checking someone's credit report that is not your own could land you in hot water, despite the fact he's your husband. This information is classed as Confidential regardless of any Matrimonial connections.

Too many inquiries on his report raises a red flag to creditors. Rather than it showing as simple inquiries, it shows as an inability to obtain credit, where those inquiries produce nothing but the inquiry itself.

You must be careful with this action because you are portraying yourself as someone else to obtain information you really shouldn't have access to. Let's put this on the other foot. Would this still be okay if he were doing it to you?

Perhaps in certain situation it might be acceptable however, you've obtained your information under fraudulent circumstances and the only way this would even be remotely ok, is if he had told you to do it for him.

In short, if he applies for credit, gets denied, investigates why...you could be toast.

Good luck with this

You cannot get a score over the internet unless you pay for it. For free, you simply get a credit report, and yes he can find out. Everything is traceable that is done on the Internet. Everything.

It should not matter that you see his credit report or credit score. If it does matter, you might be married to the wrong person. Don't be sneaky about it. This is your husband and you should know about his finances. Talk to him about it. If you do not know what is happening financially, you are in for trouble should he leave you a widow.
