Paying off a credit card!?
Im about to pay off my credit card today and i have had this card for almost a year know and i never missed a payment but when i pay it off should i keep a low balance for a month.

Either way is fine, you can pay it off in full or keep like a 1% balance. You will benefit either way from either having do debt or showing that you can pay off the debt.

Pay the whole thing off, then don't use it for about two months, so that all the interest charges will clear through.

Then, you can start using it again and take advantage of the grace period.

♥ You should keep the card over a year with good payments because it will reflect very positively on your credit report. Heres a way to keep the card in great standing and raise your credit score...

*Pay off the card completely so that you have a $0 balance. If you get gas or something at the store use your card [[rather than the cash you would use]] and then send the payment in to the credit card company. This will look great on your credit! :-)

Good Luck!

No balance or a small balance is fine. Just don't cancel the card. This could make your credit rating go down slightly.

Christie
No - if you've been paying on the card for a year and you've established a good payment history, go ahead and pay it off. There's no benefit in keeping a balance. It's a complete misnomer when people on this site tell you that you should keep a small balance on a card. As long as you paid it in a timely fashion, you've established a good credit reference for yourself and a zero balance will not hurt you.

No, pay it off and try to all the time. Just don't close the account -- that can hurt your history and FICO score.

If you have had it for 11 months then I'd say yes. If this is your 1st credit card or loan the next time you go to take out a loan maybe at your bank, what they like to see is at least 1 year of on time credit payments. That being 1 year of credit payments on a loan or a credit card.

AFhottie
yes, it looks better on your credit report to always have a little bit on there, then pay it off each month.
