Hi Beto! Great question - It depends on what your goal is with paying off your credit cards. If you're simply looking to get rid of debt, then it doesn't really matter which debt you pay down first when the interest rates are the same. Some folks find that paying off the smaller balance first is the best way because it allows you to experience a small win, which can provide motivation to pay off the next balance.
If, however, you're interested in improving your credit score in addition to paying off debt, you'll want to look at the credit limits on each card. A big chunk of your credit score is made up of credit utilization - or how much credit you use (balance) compared to how much credit is available to you (limit). If the balance on either of your credit cards is more than 50 percent of then credit limit, then you'll want to focus on paying that debt off first and bringing it at least below the 50 percent mark.
No matter what method you choose, make sure you're always paying at least the minimum payment on each card every month. Good luck! |
