Pre-Approved Credit Cards?
I’ve been wanting to get a CC for a little while but I had a mark on my credit 3 years ago, I paid off the debt in full but of course it haunts me still. I’ve applied for one CC and was denied, but then I got one in the mail about being “Pre-Approved” Is that for real?

Like, do I just apply normally? Or is there some sort of code on the paperwork I have to enter for the pre-approval? Also, what exactly does that mean? Does that mean that even if I have not so great credit that they will still give me a card? I really just need it for small things to help re-build my credit, like gas, etc….

Any help is much appreciated,

Dom.

You're getting a lot of bad information here.

Most pre-approved offers mean that your credit score has been pre-screened. The credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian, TransUnion) all sell credit card issuers lists of people who fall within a certain desired credit score range. Your name and address is likely on many of those lists, which is why you're receiving these pre-approved offers. Keep in mind, some credit card companies are targeting those with low credit card scores so they can charge ridiculous fees. Other card issuers are looking for new applicants with higher scores and are offering great rates and terms in order to secure those customer. Always look at the terms whenever you're considering applying for a pre-approved offer.

Just because a mailer says you're pre-approved, doesn't necessarily mean you will actually be approved. Once you apply and they do a full credit check, something undesirable may be revealed, such as a bankruptcy or a recent deliquency.

That said, I have two credit cards and I received both because of pre-approved offers. I was approved easily for both. One has a credit limit of $1500, a 12% fixed interest rate, and a $39 annual fee - this is through Capital One. The other card, through Washington Mutual, has a $2000 credit limit, 9.9% interest rate and no annual fee. My credit score is in the high 600s (690 last I checked) and I think I have very good rates and terms for my cards.

Unfortunately those mailers are false. Pre-approved just means you have a mailing address in their system, they have not done any sort of credit check.

Usually pre-approved offers comes with a lot of fees, there's an annual fee, a monthly fee, a first time activation fee, and a lot of other hidden costs...if it doesn't then go ahead. But e careful of those offers

Pre Approved is just a junk mail come on. You'll still have to fill out an application, they'll still pull your credit file.
The pre-approval con is just to get people who think they don't have to do anything to fill out an app.

If they are pushing a card on you, it is probably one with not great terms. I'd be proactive and shop around..seems every one has an offer these days..read the fine print, give yourself a low available line of credit...so you don't get buried. Check out employee credit unions, your bank, chech out the ads. Chances are, doing some research will really pay off! Good luck

At what cost should be your question .
sure they will issue you a card secured by a checking account and with outrageous fees stiff penalties and an unbelievable rate . approach with caution and read the fine print.
Good Luck

you were not pre selected it is just a mass mailing you can fill it out but they still have a specific criteria they are looking for if you get accepted its usually for a small amount of credit usually about $500.00

my life

Pre-approval letters are nothing but junk mails. Once you apply, they'll look at your credit and possibly deny you. I suggest people to never fall for mail advertisement. You can apply online faster and get a decision instantly. It is faster and more effective. Since you had some past issues in your credit, you might not be eligible for an excellent credit card but since you only want to use it to build your credit again, you can apply for a card that are listed on the site below. See bottom of the site for a card from orchard bank and also their "Bad credit/No Credit" section to find cards that you will likely get approved for without any problems. Good luck!

Pre approved is another word for JUNK MAIL! You want a credit card try www.capitalone.com
They will give anybody a card!

RUN as fast as you can... Pre Approved Credit Cards require a fee to get the card, plus they charge you crazy interest and when you close the account they will still charge you interest.. Capitol One is good for the.. If you want a Credit Card go to your Bank or Credit Union..
If you paid off that "MARK" on your credit than send the credit reporting agencies the proof and request that it be removed or it will stay there for another 4 years and you will continued to be denied.. Creditors do not care if the account is paid they just see the information on the report and look no further

Call the company and ask them. I called a company that was offering me $7500 credit card. She explained that all they needed was my info. Ask them the same questions. Most of the time they don't know anything about you. They buy your name off of a list or if your on the computer they can check on the sites that were visited. If you are still denied, go to Orchard Bank. They've got a great rebuild credit card site.

Liz67
They say that just to get you signed up. You can be pre-approved and still get denied.

its probably real because it's easy 2 get a credit card these days. they just get u in trouble if your not careful
