i like the idea of it but then they know how much you spent on them and i like to keep spendings a secret no matter how much or little.. but go for it if you dont have the same hangup as me |

They do offer you more versatility and keep you from being trapped into one store. Just make sure you get a reputable card, like Visa or Mastercard if you can.
One other caution - Make sure you only buy a card that sits behind the counter or the guest services desk. I realize that's probably the only location you would find these cards anyway, but you never know these days. Anyway, you don't want to get a card that is on the sales floor where the public can actually touch them. During the holidays, people will go into the stores and copy down the card numbers, number to call and check the balance, and so forth. Then, they repeatedly call those numbers until the card shows as having a balance, at which point they go online and use the card number to make orders and effectively steal what you have put on the card, and unfortunately it is virtually impossible to track because there is no billing statement to see where the money was spent.

I think its perfect gift for someone like a boss, cousin, friend.. but not for mom and dad. It is very impersonal. But its great because you can use it on whatever you want! Not a specific store. |

they charge you too much you could get a gift card from your local mall that way you dont have to pay extra and the have alot of options |

The only downside to this is that you have to pay an extra $5 added to however much money you put on the card and if the person you are giving this to wants to refill the card they too would have to pay an extra $5 fee. |

No. They are hard to use. I have some cards that I can't use because I don't know the amount. Give cash. It's much less of a hassle for the recipient. $8 billion went unused in gift card purchases last year. |
