i just got my Bank of America Check Card in the mail yesterday... it has the option of both credit and debit on it... but with it, i did not recieve a PIN number.
do you even need the PIN number? i've never used one of these before, and I just got done calling four different BofA customer service lines and none of them ever went through to an operator!!! SOOO FRUSTRATING!!!! i activated it already, and i thought maybe in doing that they would give me my PIN, but nay! they did not!
can anybody help me???

the branch didn't tell me about the PIN or anything.. they just said the card would be here in 5-7 days... and it was. but if i can use it as credit, then i will... but i need it today. so i guess i won't be doing debit.
but i'm confused... if they are mailing a PIN to me, then how is it possible for me to just walk into the BofA building and make one up with a cashier? |

Your pin should be there in a few days, it usually comes seperate, for your protection, but u can still use it as a credit card. |

They never mail the card and the pin number in the same mailing. Your pin will come in the mail in a few more days. You never want them mailed together just in case the card is stolen out of the mail box. You also do not need to have a pin unless you are using it to get cash out of the ATM or using it as a debit card at the store. You should always use the card as a credit card because using it as a debit card you will have to pay up to $2 per debit transaction instead of using it for free as a Visa. The money still comes out of your account right then and there just like it would if it were a debit transaction it is just easier to use everywhere and it's always free. |

if you did not set up a pin at the bank then they should have mailed you one separately (not w/your card for security reasons). Your best bet is just going in person to the bank. I remember one time they swiped my card and I just did the pin there. Be prepared to show id of course. |

I was a B of A customer for several years - if I remember correctly, I chose my PIN number when I opened my bank account. It was done with the specialist that helped me open the account.
If you opened your account online or did not do this at the bank, contacting customer service is probably the only way to get this done (other than going back to the branch itself). The number that has always worked for me is 1-800-432-1000 - when you hear the voice prompts, just say "customer service" until a live agent comes on the line. :) There might be a couple yes/no questions in there, and you might have to tell the system you want to talk about your checking account - but don't let it side-track you. If it starts offering options again, just say "customer service" until you're connected to a rep. :) |

As other people have said, your PIN will come seperate and you can just walk into the branch and choose on in person.
These cards are the best thing since sliced bread. You can use it as an ATM card, a debit card or a credit card and everything just comes out of your checking account. I used to write about 200 checks a month, now I write about 10.
Couple that with online banking with bill pay and checks are a thing of the past. |

I believe that if you put it into a BofA ATM it will ask you to set your pin.
The main customer service number is 1-800-432-1000, it is a voice automated line, but if you say "Speak to a representative" you will soon be connected with a person who can quickly resolve any issues you have. |

You need a pin number to use the card as a debit transaction or at the ATM, they should've stated this in a letter or something sent with the card. If all else fails stop in at the branch with ID and you can re-pin the card. |
