Caitlin | Question about credit and credit score? |
My spouse and I have pretty bad credit right now. We owe almost 14k (all credit cards) and both have poor credit scores. However, we have come into some money and are planning on paying off all of our credit cards.
My question is this: How soon will our credit score improve? If we have everything paid off, will our score get bumped up automatically, or will we have to re-establish our credit with more credit (would like to avoid this if possible)? Once we are debt-free, we want to take out a mortgage, so this is a huge concern for us right now. Thanks. |

If your accounts are showing as delinquent on your credit report, you need to ask your creditors for a "pay for delete". A pay for delete is basically where you pay and they delete.
Make sure you get it in writing that they will delete the account (or mark it as "paid as agreed" before you pay.)
There are many other techniques you can learn to repair your credit. Visit the site below to learn of them. |

if you pay off all of your credit cards all at once. yes, you should see an improvement in your credit score. however, you ALWAYS want to keep your balances BELOW 50% of your limit!!!!! (30% would be more desireable) this show's the credit bearous that you are able to manage your credit effectively. the absolout MOST important thing you can do is pay your bills on time!!! never any bill more than 30 days late. remember, it won't report to the credit beaurou as "late" until it's past 30 day's. so, if you already have credit cards, there's no need to re-establish with more credit accounts, just manage the ones you have. remember, under 50% of the high balance is great, but under 30% is better. if you have never had a mortgage before, make sure you keep a record of how you have been paying your rent for the past year. and if you have recieved this lump sum of money, the best thing you can do besides paying down your credit cards to below 30% is just to keep the money. when you apply for a mortgage it looks good if you have some liquid cash reserves available, plus you may need some money to put down on your new home.
good luck! |

ok First ..... you want to keep your credit cards open with about 15-20% balence of your total limit... This will build up your credit believe it or not, That way you put some of this money aside for a down payment or into savings. Your credit score changes every month on the 2nd, it will take you about 6 months - 1 Year to get where you want. I raised my score by 160 points in a year by paying off my credit cards except my highest limit one and keeping a balence on it, because you have to have some sort of outstanding credit to build it up.
One last thing to remember is to check you credit score from all 3 bureaus because the will all be different find out what you haven't paid off and pay them off, you will also need to see if you paid something and it still has a balence you will have to contact the company or collections and have them send you a letter and send the letter to all three companys.
one final thought... If you have been turned into collections and settled out.... lets say you owed 2000 but they said if you pay 1000 we willl clear it. Well it gets the company and collections off your back BUT that remaining balence will still show on your credit reports, as a balence .... it will be a negitive mark, so pay that off to.
I hope this has been helpful, I have been through the samething.

They should report this within 30 days give or take. You may have to be patient. Of course if you have your check to prove they are paid off they might accept it, I don't know.

I would work with your creditors for a reduced amount owed and a DELETION off your credit. Get it in writing though |

Find a pro that can help you with this, you'll have to pay for it, but it'll be worth it. Be sure to find someone legit. There are many companies that sort of prey on the (credit) weak. |
