I would go ahead and pay all the extra you can every month. This will reduce your balance and make your credit look better than if you just paid it all off at once. |

Do the extra $1,000 per month. That way you are not paying interest on your savings while you wait to reach $18K. Each $1,000 payment reduces the interest you pay. |

It is wizer to pay extra per month. However, remember, if you want to pay your loan off early, you will NOT help your credit score or credit report any. Creditors are looking for your ability to pay your debts over time. To maximize the positive impact on your credit reports you need to make your payments for at least three years. This maximizes your score and shows responsible credit management over time. THAT is what creditors are looking for when determining whom to offer credit to.

If you put it in the bank you will not draw interest on that money whereas if you pay it towards your loan on the car you will probably save a great deal in interest payments. |

This is what I think would be best for you. OK, come up with $1,000.00 a month and pay $754.00 towards your car payment of $377.00 which will amount to $9,048.00 after 12 months. Save the $246.00 per month of the $1,000.00 which will amount to $2,952 after 12 months in the bank because life is full of surprises and you might need some extra cash. If you have no surprises apply the $2,952 towards your car which will leave you with you still owing $6,000 continue making the $754.00 per month and in the end you will have paid your car off in one year and eight months. Good Luck! and Best Wishes! |

Since interest on the car loan is higher than what you get at the bank, paying it off will get you more bank for the buck (unless you got one of the real low 1.9% or similar interest). Compare interest and put the money where it is higher. |

If you can swing a 1000 a month go that route, that way you'll knock down the interest and get your car paid off quicker. |

After everybody's advise do what you think is best; but remember that if you pay off your loan early IT WILL cause your credit to suffer some. If you don't need a good or great credit score because you don't plan on buying a house then paying off your loan early may be the best route.
Remember that some people take out a car loan just to establish credit and you would be doing almost the opposite(sort of)

pay the extra $1000 a month on the car, it will reduce your loan amount and there reduce your interest on the loan as well. you end up paying less and get a good credit score also. |
