I got rejected for an AMEX card for not meeting the "internal credit score". I have a good credit history and am on a good salary. How can I get them to change their decision?
Additional Details
I have seen my credit report and there is nothing wrong. Even AMEX say there is nothing "derogatroy" but only that I didnt meet the internal score. There is not annual fee and yet they were handing out standard AMEX cards to 18 year olds. There must be some form of appeal that I can make? |

You can't.
Amex is very picky with their standards, especially for the platinum cards.
They sent you a letter (or they will) and in it it will tell you what credit agency they used to deny your application.
Get a copy of your credit report and see what is up.
Keep in mind that our credit scores are being artificially deflated so that the banks can charge us higher interest rates. Now that the government is a part owner of banks, this is only going to get worse.
I paid off 2/3 of my debt this year, and my FICO score dropped. Explain THAT.

Define what you mean by good history? What is your FICO score? Am Ex is a super prime CC company which means you have to have very high FICO scores and good income to qualify. Am Ex perks are great and the customer service is outstanding. The issue is they don't deal with ppl with good, average or poor credit. You pretty much have to have very good credit to qualify. A FICO score of 750+ would generally give you a good chance to get an Am Ex. You can call and ask them for reconsideration. I doubt they will change their minds. Note that in this credit crunch, CC companies are shying away from issuing credit cards so it is going to be more difficult to get credit cards. Am Ex is usually the most difficult card to get, in such economic times, it will be harder.
Just so you know, after the housing bubble burst, the credit card crisis is now looming. Americans owe about $1 trillion in CC debt. Analysts are worried that that credit card market will tank and many ppl will default on CC payments so everyone is really antsy about it too. |

I think wanting an American Express Card is good grounds for being rejected. They charge a premium both from the customer in an annual fee, and from the merchant in a higher fee to the merchant as well.
You can get a much better value with a platinum VISA or MC.
People who are intelligent will simply see you as intelligent when they find out you have the card that doesn't charge an annual fee and is accepted anywhere that cards are accepted.

You can request your credit report, and show them that some things are wrong. But, they wont change their minds. AE Platinum cards are ot handed out that easily. You have to show that you spend enough money with an AE card for a period of time before they will give you one. Their ratings are different than credit reporting agencies ratings. |

Best for you to find another like Visa or Master Card. Each of these has reasonable credit limits. In instances where you may require a higher credit line, if your experience with the company warrants, increases are done with no hassle. |

Why bother appealing? Just apply for a different card. AMEX is too picky. They also charge a yearly fee, Mastercard and VISA do not charge you a $75.00 year fee to use their card like AMEX does. |

This is an American Express premium card with no preset spending limit. They don't want customers who have a good credit history and salary. They want GREAT history and salary. They have their own way of deciding who makes a good customer. It's their card. |
