Just got a letter in the mail with a check for 4.700.00. The letter said we won a lottery. Informs us to deposit the check in the bank..then send 2.700.00 via Western Union directly to the tax agent..to pay taxes on our total winnings of 250,000.00. I know better not to do this since I know my bank will come after me when that check bounces. The name on the check is Mirage Financial Services. Has anyone else heard of them. |

If it came through the mail, that's mail fraud and there are very heavy penalties. Report it to the postal service. Good for you for spotting this scam. |

This is a very common scam, deposit the check, don't spend the money and wait 6 or 8 weeks, the check will probably bounce and then report the whole thing to your local police or District Attorney. |

You should alert the authorities about it. They probably have people on their forces who specializes in tracking these scams. What if someone who wasn't as smart as you got this in their mail and falls for it. |

Let's think a minute. You won a lottery you did not enter. They mailed you a check directly for a small percentage of it. Now they want you to send them back some of that for taxes instead of deducting it from the winnings like any legitimate lottery would do and western union to boot so that you have no way to stop payment. Sounds legit to me. Congratulations on your big windfall. |
