Should I Get A Credit Card?
I have ok. maybe slighty bad credit. I haven't had a credit card in 2 years. I make under 30k. I don't make big purchases and am pretty good about saving money. Would getting a credit card help my credit? What credit cards are good to have? And what's a good way to get them, I am wary of intenet ads.

Yes, using a credit card responsibly will help your credit and having good credit is golden. Besides, there are many things that are hard / impossible to do without a credit card like rent a car.

if you do pay off balance every month and keep it open will help your credit then

If you pay the balance at the end of the month then you will be fine.
Ask your bank if they have a card.
You can go on line and look at American Exp., Discover Card, Master Charge, etc. then get the number & call them. They can mail applications to you and while you are speaking to them you can learn a lot. I would suggest not paying a fee for any card.
Getting another card will help a little only if your payment record is good.

get visa with united miles so in a few months u get a free airline ticket, pay it in time, your cell-phone paid in time and dont apply at stores for a store card for 15% off w your purchase, it kills your credit!....one credit card ONLY!

Ok,

Most times "slightly bad credit" = poor credit. If your items have gone to collection then it is unlikely that a credit card will repair your credit. Especially if these debts have gone to charge-off status. You need to pay off any old debts that you have which have gone to collections. While the collection agency does not have to take them off your report, many times they will actually be nice if you pay them what you owe and do the right thing. What do you need a credit card for anyway? If you are pretty good at saving up money you should be able to make your purchases with cash, pay off your debts, and then rebuild your credit. Get your income up a little, and get to work!

Capital One (capitalone.com)gives almost everyone a fair chance. They will give you a credit card. The best thing to do is get the credit card, make small purchases every month (25-50 dollars) then pay it off every month. That way you don't have to pay interest, and it helps your credit.

American Blue Express credit card: Apart from no annual fee feature of the American Blue Express it also gives cash returns on specific purchases. Users of the American Blue Express also enjoy protection against fraud for online credit card transactions. This card tries to right the various wrong notions about the American Express credit cards, one of which is that it is a credit card only for rich or those who have money to keep a credit card.

Way to start looking into it early. Any card will help you build credit, but if you plan on maintaining a balance (which I strongly recommend against), you'll need to find one with a low rate (not just promotional rate).

Go directly to the website to avoid phishing scams. Citicard.com and discovercard.com will have some good rewards programs for you.

the book here http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fexec%2Fobidos%2FASIN%2F1600200400&tag=thestateofart-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325 is a great resource for money issues, especially credit cards and banks.

Good luck!

If you live in the credit world, then cridt card is big part of it. If you can live withouth credit the it is not really matter much.

Keep in mind, you may not rent a car, due to car rental would only rent to credit card holder not debit card holder etc...

If you good in balancing the book and have good dicipline, credit card is not that bad.

If you learn investment, credit card definitely is as good as cash.

American Express may offer you a no limit charge card, if you know how to turn your investment within that window, then?

I was in your situation a few years ago!

You need to start using credit again, in order to repair your credit and get re-established.

Start with making sure your checking acount has a credit/debit card attached to it.

Start with a revolving charge card like Target, JC Penney, Sears, etc.

The use it for small purchases that you know you can pay off immediately when that biill comes in.

Then a card for furniture, etc.

Then move up to a major credit card and/or finance a vehicle.

As long as you are diligent about paying your balance each month they will continue to increase your limit and your rating, or score will improve, or increase.

Beware of the many offers you will receive in your regular postal mail. They prey on people new to using credit, or re-establishing their credit.

Limit the amount of credit cards you have and use.

Never accept credit card offers that come in your email, or telephone solicitors!

Good luck!

Stephanie

You can got to http://www.creditexpress.blogspot.com they have credit cards for every one even if you never had credit before or if you have bad credit you still get a credit card

Any credit card from a big bank like Chase or Bank of America are good to have. A credit card will help your credit as long as you make your payments EVERY month. It's good that you aren't making any big purchases and saving money but that isn't helping boost your credit at all. When applying for a credit card online, make sure you're going through the bank's website. It's OK to go through the internet ads with promotions, just make sure after you click it and are redirected that you're still on a secure site. I would look for cards with 6-12 months No APR, meaning for an introductory period you aren't being charged any interest on the money you borrow. Depending how bad your credit is, these cards may or may not be available to you. What is also important is that you read the fine print. Especially the parts concerning your interest rate after a certain period of time, whether they can change your rate at any time and what fees are associated. If you use your credit card wisely and keep a watchful eye on your balances it can really be a beneficial tool.

If you save your money and are not tempted by impulse buying then a credit card is not evil. You should check out Dave Ramsey site it will answer all your questions about credit. He will show you how to fix you credit without getting a card.

If you haven't had one in two years why get one you are doing well without it. There is really no need for one. I know people will tell you that you can't rent a car but you can with a debt card. People do it all the time.

Please look at Daveramsey.com

I agree with Steven M. Check out the Dave Ramsey site and the total money makeover. I will never use credit again except for a mortgage. You can do almost everything with a debit card you can with a credit card, except go in to debt. And there are places where you can rent a car, Enterprise Rent-A-Car for example. I know, my wife works there.

I have cut up all my credit cards and will never use one again. The only reason you really need to have a credit score is to...get more credit. And there are lenders out there that can look at other things (like rent history) in order to determine whether you are a good candidate for a mortgage loan. I do recommend that you pay off all the past debt you have. And it is great that you haven't had a credit card in 2 years. Keep it up! But yes, check out DaveRamsey.com for information on The Total Money Makeover!
