I’d recommend speaking with someone at your local credit union about getting a Visa or Master Card Debit card. It can be used like a credit card. But, you can only spend what is in your account. Most credit unions will give you a free checking account without any minimum balance requirements. |

Buy a credit card? isn't that an oxymoron? A credit card by it's definition is when a company extends credit to you under your promise to pay them back. Now if you are asking if you should have a card with any type of fee I say no way. |

I know what you're talking about. Some companies make you actually pay to have their card if you have bad credit or no credit. (I've had to do that before when I was 18). I'd check around first. |

How bad do you need it? How many do you already have? Do you know your credit score? If your score is average or good and you pay your debts in full each month, and you don't max out your line all the time, then yes, go ahead. If not, then you are not responsible enough to handle that piece of plastic. |

I don't think you know what you want to ask. No one buys a credit card. Anyway you should only get a credit card if you have a job and are responsible to not use it more than you can afford to. You don't say how old you are but I got my first cc after HS for a department store that I liked. My limit was only $500 but I never got it that high cause I knew I couldn't pay that much off each month. If I charged something I would make sure I had enough to pay it off when the bill came in. I built my credit up using it smartly for about six months then accepted an offer for a visa. I then stopped using the store cc because they have a very high rate. You need to be careful because you can get into major trouble with credit cards. |

You might check with car dealers in your area. I'm pretty sure that in my state you can get get a car loan even if you don't have a credit card. (But it might be nice to have a credit card to pay for gas after you get the card, so you can pay at the pump -- just be careful, it's easy to go overboard with charging if you are not really diligent about keeping track of how much you have charged.) |

If you need one for online purchases, you can always purchase a prepaid one. However, if you just want one for emergencies, then it's not a bad idea. Just be aware of the intrest rates. |
