Should I cancel credit card?
As of now I have 4 Credit cards. 1 secured card(where I had to put a down payemt of 200 dollars down to help build my credit. 1 capital one 1 hsbc. They are all mastercards. The 2 other cards have limits of 300 dollars each. I applied for an american express recieved that and I now have a 1000 dollar limit with them. I know older accounts are good on my account but will this look bad on my credit report? I wanna cancel 2 only if it does not hurt my credit score. The secured card I had for about a year and the hsbc for a month. The capital one for about 4 to 5 months.

obamab08?
No is better, yet It's good to have only 3 max because the 4th on is unecessary. nonetheless, it's not good either to have a closing account shows up on your credit, so what to do is try to pay 3 off and keep one and PAY IT AS AGREED, and don't ever go over limit.

Dont obsess with you credit score. Banks spend millions brainwashing people into think they have to have a high credit score to make it in todays world. Thats a total load of crap. Its no different than yesterday. Save your money and pay cash. If you pay cash you dont have any payments and you dont pay thousands of dollars in interest.

SInce the secured card is the oldest one, it would only hurt you to cancel it. DO NOT CANCEL ANY! But for two cards, I would pay them down to 0 and leave them like that. Occasionally charging $20 here and there and then paying them off immediately. As long as they are active and at a zero balance it will help your score.

Avoid too applying for too many credit cards all at once. When ever you check your credit score it leaves a mark. If you have too many marks too fast lenders thing you've hit a financial wall and are headed for trouble. One case that comes to mind is about a first time home buyer. They were approved for the home loan but it hadn't been finalized. The buyer thinking he was getting a home applied for a credit card to buy furniture. Because the loan had not closed the new credit card application caused the loan to be rejected at the last minute. This one application caused his credit score to drop to an unacceptable level and he lost the house. The moral: be careful with the timing of your credit card applications. I'm no expert, but now that you have 'regular' cards there's not much advantage in keeping the secured card; and I think it could be a slight negative.

In general it is best to keep cards long term and not get a lot of new ones. Over time they will raise your credit limits. You want to use less than 50% of your credit limits and never pay late. It seems to me it is also a good idea to use each card at least once or twice a year or it might be dropped off your records & no longer help your credit score.

Canceling a credit card CAN hurt your credit rating (I've pulled thousands of credit reports, as well as taken MANY MANY classes on how a credit score is equated).

If you want to learn more about credit, go to:

It will have an answer to just about any question you should have about a credit score, and how they come up with it.

You should really stick to just one credit card. If you get too many credit cards, then your gonna screw yourself over. Cancel all but one, even if it hurts you, it'll help in the long run.

Cancelling cards is not going to hurt your credit rating. Haveing to many can however. You probably know this but in case you don't credit cards are not a healthy way to build credit. Many people use them as financing which often turns to bad debt.
