My first response is NO.

I posted a link so you can check out the statute of limitations in your State, as long as this date has passed, do not pay anything do not even talk to them.

No, from watching Suze Orman every state (some differ in years) have a limit to them coming back on you. Surely 7 years is too long. If you do make any type of contact, payment agreement/inquiry, you have started that statute of years over, so then they could start hounding you again and attempt to collect.

are they still calling you about it? If yes, tell them it's more than 7 yrs old and they're not getting paid on it

No The statue of limitations has run out on that debt... You no longer owe the creditor... there have been a lot of collection companies trying to collect on debts that are not collectible.

ie. debts that have gone through bankruptcy, or 7 years old etc.. this is illegal but because its a 4 billion dollar a year business people are taking the chance that they will not get caught. Do not pay .. and if you are being harassed tell them that you are going to turn them in for harassment.

response is a classic example what a debt collector would say
What kind of debt is it--if it is a credit card open ended most states has a SOL of 4 years from the last payment. Now if it is a signed contract those SOL are typically longer. search in yahoo "SOL debt" you will get a sheet where you can match your state and what type of debt it is.
Collectors still can sue you if that debt is out of the SOL "like what happened to free_b" counting on people not knowing there rights. If that happens go to court and tell the judge this debt is past the SOL, then the case will be dismissed.

if they had a judgment against you within those 7 yrs. they can come at you at any time and you will have to pay and it will go on your credit. If they didn't have judgment against you I wouldn't worry about it.

I agree with the general consensus, especially my good bud SpifiMan1. I'll not just tell you no, but H*LL NO! There's a statute of limitations for collecting debt, which I would double check by clicking on the link Spifi sent you. Believe it or not, there are some states that have statutes lasting as long as 10 years (i.e. Louisiana), so it's important to make sure that you're clear first. But aside from that, I wouldn't even sweat that debt. (Hey, that rhymed! LOL)

NO! If the Statute Of Limitations has passed in your home state and this is not on your credit reports, don't even contact them! If you do, then they can legally replace the debt back on your credit reports if you agree you owe it!

If you willing to pay it, then you agree to own it! I would let it go and move forward from here and just use your credit wisely and you should be fine! Pull a current copy of your credit report for free and look it over. this is a good habit to get into anyway!

Yes I think you should pay it...this is why.

My husband owed $189.52 and 9 years had past and he thought it was okay because it wasn't on his credit report...well to his surprise 9 years later he gets a letter in the mail saying he's being sued for the money...here's the joke because 9 years had passed they said interest had accumulated over the 9 years they told him he owed $9000.00 at this point and if he didn't pay they would garnish his wages.

Sometimes things don't show up on your credit report because the place where you owe the money too have their own collections department within there business so a regular credit agency may not see what you owe for that very reason ..however the place you owe the money too have it in their records.

So if you can arrange monthly payments to pay off your balance before you get a notice that your being sued.

Good Luck!!
