Younger than that, you cannot legally enter into a contract so you cannot get a credit card. A credit card requires the user to sign a legally binding agreement to pay the credit card bill. |

♥ Unless you are 18 or 19 NO WAY!!! Most can't even handle it as full grown adults, must less a teenager. I got my first credit card when I was 18 and ran the $500 limit up in just a few weeks... never again. I learned my lesson. |

Yes, 16 or older. I got a credit card when I was 16 and I was under my mom's name. I recieved my own statement . This is how you build good credit.
You should not get a credit card if you do not have a job. I had a job so I was able to get a credit card. Credit Companies ask for your employment history. Most likely they won't issue a card if you are not working. |

The only people who should have credit cards are those who have significant income enough (which means having a job) to pay off the credit card(s). This includes teenagers, college students and adults. |

If the teen is responsible and has a job to pay it off, then why not? The parent should know what kind of a teenager they have and should decide according to that kid. Or, if the parent wants to pay it off for the kid so that they can build credit then that's fine too. But if they know they have a kid that is going to run it up to the max the second they get it, then no. My dad gave me and my sister a credit limit for each month (which is the money he would have given us anyway) and paid it off in full every month. My sister has finished college and I will be done soon. Both of us have credit scores now where we will not need a co-signer for anything and can get good interest rates on loans or credit cards. |
